Job description

ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking to add a member of our team with experience preparing personal and small business tax returns. Most of the returns this individual would be responsible for include W2โ€™s, and 1099โ€™s. This team member would also have some experience in bookkeeping and preparation of payroll returns.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Prepare tax returns for individuals & small businesses.

  • Understand and know how to ethically apply the law to tax return preparation.
  • Basic tax research skills.
  • Interview clients to obtain additional information on taxable income and deductible expenses and allowances.
  • Use all appropriate, legal & ethical adjustments, deductions, and credits to keep clients' taxes to a minimum.

  • Complete entries on forms, following tax form instructions and tax tables.

  • Furnish taxpayers with sufficient information and advice to ensure correct tax form completion.

  • Check data input or verify totals on forms prepared by others to detect errors in arithmetic, data entry, or procedures.

  • Consult tax law handbooks or bulletins to determine procedures for preparation of atypical returns.

  • Answer questions and provide future tax planning to clients.

  • Review financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenditures to determine forms needed to prepare tax returns.

  • Explain federal and state tax laws to individuals and companies.

  • Basic computer & email skills.
