Job description


The Certified/Registered Medical Assistant (MA) works under the supervision of leadership. The MA provides a wide range of assistive services to promote patient flow, patient information gathering and patient care in the clinic setting. Performs patient access duties i.e. patient check in and appointment setting for the Provider's office to support patient care delivery and follow up. All medical tasks will be performed per the direction of the clinic nurse or Provider.
Responsibilities
  • Interviews patient and documents patient's response in the medical record according to standard.
  • Administers and documents prescribed medications (oral, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous, inhaled, drops) and treatments in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient's response to medications and treatments to provider(s).
  • Documentation and communication of medication refills.
  • Assists provider with examinations and procedures, including preparing sterile field and properly maintains equipment before and after procedures.
  • Collects and prepares laboratory specimens, instructs patients and/or family members in the collection of samples and tests, completes point of care testing.
  • Performs clinic procedures including but not limited to EKGs, Snellen Eye Testing, regular and pediatric E-chart, Bone Density Testing (DEXA), Incentive Spirometry, Ear Lavage, apply/changes dressing including wound care, staple removal, etc .
  • Provides education material to patients as instructed by providers.
  • Communicates with patients regarding appointments, completion of insurance forms, medical releases and other documentation. Monitors the scheduling of patients, responds to and refers incoming telephone inquiries from patients and other parties, answers patient inquiries, and maintains timely flow of patients.
  • Arranges for patient referral testing at other facilities or specialty care.
  • Enters patient data into computer system accurately and completely including patient registration, medical record assignment and visit creation. Documents all observations, treatments, procedures, medications, telephone conversations in medical record per standard.
  • Cleans and maintains patient care areas including the examination room and equipment to ensure a sanitary, safe, and organized facility.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education
  • H.S. Diploma - Required
  • If hired after 06/01/2021 will need to complete a Medical Assistant training program. - Required

Work Experience
  • Six months physician's office or healthcare setting - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Required Upon Hire Or
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - Required Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required Upon Hire

Travel Requirements
  • Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required

  • Fine motor skills required, eye\hand coordination, walk, ability to speak clearly, hear answer phone, data entry, typing, basic bookkeeping and handling money

Essential Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 10 to 25 pounds.
  • Must follow good body mechanics.

  • Comprehend and understand physician orders, medical terminology, and staff requests.
  • Ability to collect thorough information regarding patient's condition and evaluate effects of care.
  • Problem solve, manipulate numbers, adaptability, interpret data, calculate, comprehend, understand, explain, evaluate short term and long term memory.
  • Follow policy and procedures; disseminate information and/or instructions to the appropriate person(s).
  • Prioritize work assignments and follow through to completion. Ability to manage stress and remain calm in a fast paced environment.

Essential Sensory Requirements
  • Ability to visually assess patient condition; Visual, hearing, feeling, smell.

Exposure to Hazards
  • Blood/Body fluids, needles, cuts, back injuries electrical output of personal computers, eye and neck strain and any other medical office related hazards.
