Seeking an ASSISTANT CIVIL LITIGATOR

 

General Summary: Under the direction of the Attorney General/Chief Civil Litigator, the Assistant Civil Litigator will assist in carrying out any function, duty or responsibility delegated to them and will assist in the prosecution of criminal, juvenile and elder cases and matters on behalf of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and counsel to the various departments and agencies of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation;
  • Negotiate, review and draft contracts;
  • Negotiation and purchase of commercial and individual property for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation,
  • Assist with legal advice and counsel to the Tribal communities;
  • Drafting of Tribal legislation;
  • Attend tribal committee meetings and provide legal advice to Tribal committees;
  • Assists with the writing and review of Tribal grants upon request;
  • Provide legal advice and counsel on matters between the Federal, State County and City officials;
  • Public speaking at meetings and conferences;
  • Provide legal research and memoranda for and on behalf of the Attorney General;
  • Provide customer service to citizens and other individuals seeking general information/guidance on the operations of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation
  • Some travel required for training and meetings. Okmulgee and Jenks office locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to carryout function of organization.
  • Perform additional duties, task and responsibilities assigned by management to support the overall operations of the organization

Minimum Requirements:

Must be a graduate of an accredited law school, knowledgeable and/or have experience of Federal Indian law.

Must have a valid Oklahoma drivers license.

Preferred Requirements:

Law degree with FIL experience. Special Considerations: Must be able to communicate and handle workload under pressure situations. Must be able to work with confidential material.

Additional Licenses required:

  1. Valid Driver's License.
  2. Must be licensed to practice law in any state and must be in good standing with that jurisdiction.
  3. Must be willing to become licensed to practice law in Oklahoma.

Must be a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Bar Association in good standing or be eligible to become a member.
