Job description

Lawyers on Demand, a Consilio Company, is currently seeking a contract word processor to support one of our law firm clients on a hybrid assignment.


This will be contract-to-hire for the successful contractor!

Start: ASAP once interviewed and selected

Pay Rate: $35/hour

Location: on site in NYC office

Hours: 30 hours per week (7AM - 5:30PM T/W/Th)


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compiles material to be processed, following written or oral instructions . Reads instructions accompanying material, or follows verbal instructions from Manager or person requesting document, to determine format and content required.
  • Types, revises, and combines material such as correspondence, memoranda, briefs, reports, records, forms, numerical data, and tabular information, from rough draft, corrected copy, recorded voice dictation, recorded hearings, meetings, or depositions, or previous computer versions.
  • Formats documents and enters information to firm standards, using word processing software (MS Word)and/or additional plugins (such as MacPac) for further legal formatting, other word processing equipment, and other applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
  • Understands and is able to create pleadings using pleading format, citation format, captions, footers, etc. Creates tables of contents and table of authorities (the latter using Word’s internal TOA marking features). Uses MacPac to create and revise documents, insert and edit styles and numbering schemes.
  • Is able to merge documents; create and edit tables and charts, and perform redlining using CompareDocs or Microsoft’s built-in comparison tools. Creates Word forms.
  • Converts and re-formats documents into Word from other formats such as Excel, Adobe, email, hard copy using scanner or from e-mail, or WordPerfect; and converts from Word to above formats.
  • Creates, edits and converts PowerPoint slides.
  • Creates forms in Adobe.
  • Creates, edits and converts data to and from Excel.
  • Checks completed documents using automated spell checker and makes corrections. Prints large documents to networked printers and copiers.
  • Is able to locate and download court forms from the Internet or from iManage; can make forms fillable and/or remove security (when possible) to allow input or editing.
  • Performs Internet research to locate people and institutions, provide maps, or requested information; find news articles on requested subjects, and then download, convert and send to others via request. Locates documents stored internally.
  • Sends and receives hard copy via fax if Services is unavailable.
  • Prepares documents for electronic filing and service, and works with attorney to perform e-filing and e-service via ECF, Pacer NextGen, One Legal, File & Serve, and/or any other efiling solution required by the court. Uses PACER to retrieve e-filed documents; saves on iManage; sends links and copiers to filer.
  • Emails Proposed Order to judge and/or filed documents to counsel (ONLY upon specific instruction by partner on case).
  • Inputs time entry for staff and contract attorneys.
  • Converts and transcribes hearings, Youtube videos, news reports, podcasts, and other audio-visual material requiring a written copy for review and production, and/or cleans up transcripts of same.
  • Monitors a select number of voicemail boxes and transcribes new voicemails that arrive in those boxes; transcribe voicemails for attorneys and paralegals upon request.
  • Send documents out for signature of outside parties via DocuSign.
  • Uploads large documents (or large volume of documents) in Workshare/Sharefile in order to provide hyperlinks with which outside parties can download documents.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of word processing experience preferred, preferably in a law firm or other professional services environment.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred but not required.
