Data Center Operation Technician:
A Data Center Operations Technician (DCOT) is responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of critical data center infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime and reliability. This role installs and supports server, storage, network, and cabling equipment; responds to incidents and alarms; performs basic troubleshooting and hardware repairs; and coordinates maintenance activities with vendors and internal teams. The DCOT also maintains accurate asset and inventory records, supports facility upgrades and preventative maintenance programs, and ensures compliance with all safety, security, and operational procedures.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day operational support within the data center environment, ensuring reliable and efficient facility operations.
  • Respond to incident tickets, service requests, and change orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Install, rack, mount, cable, and decommission server, storage, and network equipment according to industry and client standards.
  • Prepare equipment for installation, including asset tagging, staging, testing, and documentation.
  • Replace failed hardware components including hard drives, memory, power supplies, fans, network modules, optical transceivers, and other server-related components.
  • Execute power cycling, device resets, and basic troubleshooting activities under the direction of remote engineering and operations teams.
  • Monitor data center infrastructure using Building Management Systems (BMS) and other monitoring tools, responding promptly to alarms, alerts, and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Monitor environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, airflow, air quality, and cooling systems to maintain optimal operating environments.
  • Monitor electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, breakers, load balancing, voltage conditions, and power quality metrics.
  • Escalate operational concerns, incidents, and abnormalities to management and stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Support emergency response efforts by addressing equipment failures, power interruptions, environmental alarms, and other critical events.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance activities and support planned maintenance schedules as directed by operations leadership.
  • Support facility upgrades, expansions, and infrastructure improvement projects while coordinating with contractors, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Manage structured cabling infrastructure, including cable installation, termination, testing, patching, tracing, labeling, and documentation.
  • Perform copper and fiber optic cable installations from the point of demarcation through the data center white space.
  • Install panels, cabinets, racks, and associated connectivity components while maintaining industry standards and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate asset management records and update systems as equipment is added, removed, relocated, or modified.
  • Track and maintain inventory of hardware, spare equipment, cables, power cords, and infrastructure components.
  • Coordinate equipment deliveries, shipping, receiving, and logistics activities.
  • Execute assigned project tasks and communicate project status, risks, and milestones to stakeholders.
  • Support capacity planning efforts related to space, power, cooling, and network infrastructure.
  • Oversee vendor technicians during preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Support the execution and management of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).
  • Identify, report, and address hazards, safety concerns, and compliance violations promptly.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or vocational training preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting data center, mission-critical, or colocation environments.
  • Working knowledge of data center operations, hardware installation, asset management, and infrastructure support.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting server, storage, and networking equipment from multiple vendors.
  • Understanding of structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber optic installations, patching, testing, and cable management best practices.
  • Experience using ticketing systems, asset management platforms, and operational documentation tools.
  • Ability to interpret and execute operational procedures, maintenance tasks, and project plans.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to respond effectively during high-priority incidents.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in enterprise, hyperscale, cloud, or colocation data center environments.
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), and environmental monitoring platforms.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems supporting mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience supporting preventative maintenance programs and critical facility operations.
  • Knowledge of TIA/EIA structured cabling standards and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated project coordination or project management experience.
  • Understanding of server hardware components, network infrastructure, and storage technologies.
  • Experience managing inventory, logistics, and asset tracking processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, floor plans, and technical specifications.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and process improvement skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships across teams and with external partners.

Compensation & Benefits Disclosure

The base pay range for this role is $28.00 โ€“ $33.00 per hour this range reflects a goodโ€‘faith estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay upon hire, based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and market/location. Our comprehensive benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA), gym discount, mental health, Discounted Group Life & AD&D, Discounted Group Short & Long-term Disability, 401(k) retirement matching, PTO/paid holidays, and parental leave. Final compensation will be determined by jobโ€‘related factors consistent with applicable law.
