What is a data associate?

Data Associates are professionals who collect, manage, process, and ensure the quality of data within an organization. They often work with databases, spreadsheets, and software tools to organize and validate data, making it accessible and accurate for analysis and reporting. Data Associates may also assist with data entry, cleaning, and basic analysis tasks, supporting teams like data analysts or data scientists. Their work is crucial for maintaining reliable information that drives business decisions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data associate?

To thrive as a Data Associate, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid foundation in data management or statistics, often supported by a bachelor's degree in a related field. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, and sometimes Python or data visualization software is commonly required. Excellent organization, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help individuals stand out in this role. These skills ensure accurate data handling, reliable reporting, and clear collaboration across teams, which are critical for data-driven decision-making.

How does a data associate typically collaborate with other teams within an organization?

Data Associates frequently work alongside analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure data accuracy and accessibility. They may be responsible for gathering data from various sources, cleaning datasets, and supporting the data needs of other departments. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Data Associates often receive requests for reports or data updates and must coordinate with technical and non-technical colleagues to deliver actionable insights. This collaborative environment helps Data Associates learn about different business functions and can open doors for career growth.

Job description

Imagine seeing a skyline and knowing you helped build it. At Adi Development Group, that's not a metaphor - it's your Monday morning. We're one of Canada's most innovative real estate developers with over $3 Billion in built value under development across the GTHA, and we're looking for people who want their work to literally reshape communities. We move fast, we think like owners, and we don't settle for "the way it's always been done."

Our culture is built on candour, curiosity and teamwork. Adians challenge each other's thinking, experiment fearlessly, and show up for one another - whether you're in your first week or your fifth year. When we make a decision, we commit and move forward together. One team, one mission: build better, for everyone.

Your Impact:

This isn't a back-office number-crunching role. As an Associate Accountant at Adi, you'll be immersed in the financial operations of multi-million dollar development projects - supporting our accounting team and partnering with Construction PMs, Sales & Marketing, and senior leadership to keep every dollar on track from groundbreaking to closing day.

  • Support monthly project draws and budget variance analysis - you'll gain hands-on exposure to real-time decisions on construction projects

  • Prepare, review, and maintain payment draw schedules in accordance with internal processes

  • Complete GL reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and project financial reports accurately and on time

  • Work with budget owners to refine cash flow forecasts, monitor project risks, and flag potential issues early

  • Review invoices processed by Accounts Payable for coding accuracy, budget alignment, and required approvals

  • Maintain project budgets in Sage and support accurate data flow between Sage and Procore

  • Partner with Construction Project Managers to review coding accuracy, identify budget variances early, and learn the operational side of development accounting from the ground up

  • Assist the Controller, Sales & Marketing, and external counsel with closing site records and unit closing statements

  • Prepare and file HST returns and T5018s accurately and on time

  • Support process improvements and take on additional responsibilities as needed

What You Bring:

  • 1-2 years of accounting experience, ideally in construction or real estate development - or a recent graduate who's eager to build a career in project accounting

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field

  • CPA designation in progress - you're on the path and committed to the profession

  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and working with large data sets

  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and strong attention to detail

  • Hands-on experience with accounting software (Sage experience is a plus)

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines

  • A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn, ask questions, and solve problems

  • High integrity, confidentiality and professionalism in everything you do

  • Genuine curiosity and a drive for continuous improvement and process optimization

Why You'll Love Working Here:
  • Learning & Development Reimbursement: We invest in your growth with tuition and education reimbursements so you never stop levelling up.

  • Competitive Paid Time Off: Vacation, Wellness, and Sick days -  because rest fuels great work.

  • Competitive Salaries: Regular compensation market reviews ensure your total package stays ahead of the curve.

  • Employee Home Ownership Program: Dream of living in one of our communities? Eligible Adians receive a discount off the purchase price.

  • Comprehensive Benefits Plan: Full coverage for dental, prescriptions, vision, paramedical, life insurance and more for you and your dependents.

  • Flexible Health, Lifestyle & Wellness Spending Account: Annual spending accounts for fitness, gym memberships, family & pet needs, extra health coverage and more.

  • Dedicated Online Mental Health Partner: 24/7 access to professional online therapy because your wellbeing matters.

$55,000 - $70,000 a year
