Job Requirements

The Senior Associate Director Data Analytics and Prospect Research serves as a key technical and analytical partner supporting data integrity, reporting, and system functionality across UM Medicine's dual-CRM environment (RENXT and Advance/BBCRM). This role contributes to ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and usability of donor and prospect data, while supporting the development of reporting tools and processes that enable frontline fundraising and leadership decision-making. Works in close coordination with internal team members and campus partners-including UMB, UMBF, and UMMS Shared Services-to implement data standards, support reporting needs, and contribute to ongoing system improvements. Provides strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to translate data into clear, actionable outputs.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and refine dashboards and visualizations (Tableau, Power BI) to support tracking of fundraising performance and key metrics across both Blackbaud CRM and Raiser's Edge NXT (sunsetting Advance & moving to BBCRM in CY2026).
  • Conduct data analysis to identify trends, support forecasting, and inform reporting needs.
  • Produce standardized and ad hoc reports, including, Campaign performance and donor reports; Board giving and leadership reports; KPI tracking.
  • Support development of automated reporting processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Support query building and list generation, merging from two databases into consolidated reporting.
  • Support the accuracy and consistency of data across RENXT and Advance/BBCRM.
  • Support data updates and intake processes (e.g., Smartsheet workflows), including biographical updates, and board and leadership tracking across entities.
  • Assist in troubleshooting database issues and supporting user access and permissions.
  • Follow established data standards, protocols, and governance practices in coordination with campus partners.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance data workflows, reporting processes, and system efficiency.
  • Partner with UMMS Shared Services, UMBF, and UMB colleagues to align data structure, reporting standards, and system practices.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of queries, reporting templates, and data documentation.
  • Support CRM-related initiatives, including system enhancements and migration efforts.
  • Evaluate and implement tools, technologies, and methodologies that enhance the research and prospect management function.
  • Serve as a go-to resource for fundraisers and team members seeking support with data access, reporting, and CRM functionality.
  • Translate team needs into clear data outputs and reports.
  • Provide guidance and support on dashboards, reporting tools, and data best practices.
  • Reinforce consistent use of systems and processes across the team.
  • Support efforts to build and refine a dynamic prospect pipeline, including discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship tracking.
  • Collaborate with campus partners across UMMS and UMB to carry out a comprehensive strategy for prospect research and management in support of fundraising.
  • Supervise and develop Associate Director and Development Associate.
  • Set priorities and manage workflow across research and analytics, aligning with enterprise standards and partner expectations.
  • Ensure quality, consistency, and timeliness of outputs across the team.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and day-to-day guidance to support team member growth and effectiveness.
  • Partner closely with UMMS Shared Services, UMB, and UMBF colleagues to reinforce aligned practices, remaining responsive and deferential to centrally established standards and approaches.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Work Experience

Education & Experience - Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Five (5) years of experience in data analytics, database management, or development operations
  • Experience with reporting tools (Excel, Power BI, Tableau) and data querying
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large datasets with strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills and process-oriented mindset

Education & Experience - Preferred

  • Experience in healthcare advancement, academic medicine, or complex nonprofit philanthropy environments.
  • Experience working across multiple CRM systems, including data integration, reconciliation, or reporting in parallel systems.
  • Familiarity with SQL, data warehousing concepts, and reporting or automation tools used to support analytics and operational efficiency.
  • Experience supervising staff or leading workstreams in a data, analytics, or development operations function.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of donor and prospect data.
  • Skill in developing and delivering reports, dashboards, and analytics that support fundraising performance and leadership decision-making.
  • Skill in technical query building and list generation to support prospect identification, segmentation, and portfolio management.
  • Knowledge of CRM system functionality, workflows, and optimization approaches in a fundraising or advancement environment.
  • Ability to support and enhance data workflows and CRM processes to improve usability and operational efficiency.
  • Knowledge of prospect research methodologies, including screenings, wealth analysis, and qualification strategies.
  • Skill in preparing donor and prospect briefings, bios, and strategic insights that synthesize complex data.
  • Ability to track, maintain, and report on board and leadership engagement and giving activity.
  • Ability to support portfolio management and prospect pipeline activities with timely, accurate data and analysis.
  • Ability to translate data and analytical insights into actionable fundraising strategies for frontline staff and leadership.
