We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Analyst to join our team in the energy and utilities sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis, with experience in data preparation and visualization tools. This role is critical to our business, as the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and contributing to key projects focused on data integration and providing comprehensive and accurate insights that directly influence decision-making processes and help drive the financial success of the company.
A significant part of the work involves evaluating power generation equipment and subcomponents/systems, ensuring that the data-driven insights provided are accurate and impactful. The candidate must be capable of analyzing complex problems, building predictive models, and making strategic recommendations that impact our bottom line. The role also involves active participation in high-level discussions, where the candidate's insights and analysis will play a significant role in shaping the company's financial strategies. The Data Analyst will be based in our Houston office, with an expectation to work on-site full-time for the first year. After the first year, there is an option to work remotely two days a week.
Job Responsibilities
  • Analyze complex datasets and provide actionable insights to drive decision-making across various business areas.
  • Lead projects focused on data integration, ensuring comprehensive and accurate data solutions that enhance operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate power generation equipment and subcomponents/systems, contributing to the company's operational reliability and financial performance.
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries, dashboards, and reports using tools like Tableau and Excel to track key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to gather requirements, build models, and make strategic recommendations that impact the company's bottom line.
  • Completes tasks that require an ability to recognize deviation from accepted practices for a single department or function.
  • Experience in the energy and utilities industry is preferred but not required; candidates with relevant industry experience are welcome.
  • Strong Microsoft PowerPoint skills, with the ability to create clear and impactful presentations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, adhering to broad guidelines while taking initiative to solve problems.
  • Team player with a results-oriented mindset, comfortable with diving into issues, brainstorming solutions, and learning new methods and tools to address challenges.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Typically requires 0 to 3 years of experience, prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Data Analyst, with a proven track record of working on complex data analysis projects.
  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience with data analysis and preparation tools, such as SQL, Python, R, Excel, Alteryx, KNIME, etc along with experience in visualization platforms like Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, etc is required.
