Is 40 too late for data science?

For a mid-level data analyst, starting a career in data science at age 40 is feasible, especially if you have relevant skills in programming, statistics, and tools like Python or R. Many professionals successfully transition into data roles later in life by gaining certifications, building portfolios, and leveraging prior experience. Age is less a barrier than skills, continuous learning, and practical experience in the field.

What is a mid-level analyst?

They typically have proficiency in tools like Excel, SQL, and data visualization software, and may work under the supervision of senior analysts or managers.

Will AI replace a data analyst?

AI tools can automate routine data processing and analysis tasks, but data analysts are essential for interpreting complex insights, making strategic decisions, and communicating findings. The role of a mid-level data analyst involves critical thinking, domain knowledge, and skills in tools like SQL and Excel, which are less likely to be fully replaced by AI in the near term.

What jobs make $1,000,000 a year?

In the field of data analysis, earning $1,000,000 annually is uncommon and typically requires senior roles such as Chief Data Officer or data-focused executive positions, often combined with bonuses, stock options, or profit sharing. High earnings in this field usually involve extensive experience, advanced skills in analytics tools, and leadership responsibilities within large organizations or consulting firms.

Job description

Welcome to the intersection of energy and home services. At NRG, we're driven by our passion to create a smarter, cleaner and more connected future.

Vivint Smart Home, an NRG owned company, is a leading smart home company in the United States, dedicated to redefining the home experience with intelligent products and services. We find purpose in proactively protecting and keeping our customers connected to home, no matter where they are. Join the Smart Home team to create smarter, safer and more sustainable homes.

  About the Role

We're looking for a curious, detail-oriented Junior Analyst to join our Door-to-Home reporting and analytics team. In this role, you'll work at the intersection of sales operations and data - building and maintaining reports that help field leaders and corporate stakeholders make informed decisions. If you love digging into data, keeping things accurate, and turning numbers into clear narratives, this could be a great fit.

  What You'll Do
  • Build and maintain SQL-based reporting views and queries in Snowflake to support daily, weekly, and monthly reporting cycles
  • Develop and refresh Tableau dashboards for sales leadership and corporate audiences
  • Create and manage Excel-based reports, models, and data summaries for operational and budget tracking
  • Audit and troubleshoot existing reports to identify discrepancies, data quality issues, or logic errors - and fix them
  • Partner with sales leaders to understand reporting needs and translate those into clear, usable outputs
  • Support corporate-facing reporting deliverables including operating metrics, budget summaries, and performance tracking
  • Assist with ad hoc data pulls and analysis as needed by leadership
 What We're Looking For

Required

  • Proficiency in SQL - able to write and troubleshoot queries independently
  • Hands-on experience with Tableau for building and maintaining dashboards
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data formatting)
  • Solid attention to detail and a methodical approach to auditing data
  • Strong communication skills - able to explain data clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Snowflake or a similar cloud data warehouse
  • Familiarity with sales reporting, budgeting, or operating metrics
  • Experience working in a field sales or direct-to-home industry
 Why Join Our Team
  • Work on reporting that directly influences how sales leadership runs the business
  • Gain exposure to enterprise-level data tools and workflows (Snowflake, Tableau, and more)
  • Be part of a collaborative team that values accuracy, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Real opportunities to grow your skills and take on more responsibility over time
