Factory Quality Control Supervisor


Summary:

The Factory Quality Control Supervisor oversees product quality assurance by providing leadership and guidance to all hourly factory employees, as well as reporting on issues to the factory production manager and Factory Manager.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As Factory Quality Control Supervisor you will:

  • Supervise 30+ employees to ensure security, safety, specs, quality assurance of products, sanitation, HACCP,SQF and FDA regulations are followed.
  • Schedule shifts for QC department and manage their payroll timesheets.
  • Orient new employees and conduct training for department-related activities.
  • Counsel and praise employees on corrections and positive contributions, and listen to and help to resolve complaints.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager and Factory Manager, and act as liaison between them and line employees.
  • Create and maintain a safe and positive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all Safety regulations.
  • Maintain high sanitary standards as required by the food and beverage manufacturing industry, and be prepared for third party audits and regulatory inspections at all times.
  • Oversee lab analysis with respect to physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters.
  • Establish consistent templates for SOPs and daily records to ensure accurate documentation and audit readiness.
  • Review quality control report on a daily and monthly basis.
  • Format and verify all quality control records following established company standards.
  • Be responsible for all quality control equipment and supplies, including inventory and maintenance.
  • Perform inventory control, ensuring that supplies are in stock by counting inventory.
  • Escort and assist auditors from third party agencies and regulatory bodies.
  • Audit supplier of raw and sub materials.
  • Microbiology Culturing, environmental sampling and testing.
  • Investigate results that are out of specifications, and make the solutions.
  • Enforce all company rules, policies, and procedures, and provide disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Confirm accuracy of time sheets and Leave of Absence requests for shipping departments to ensure labor law compliance and provide accurate data for payroll calculation.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching and development support for QC assistant.
  • Immediately investigate all types of accidents, such as Workers Comp and property damage, and report to Production Manager and Human Resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain high sanitation and workplace safety standards in compliance with SQF,HACCP,FDA requirements and OSHA regulations to ensure readiness for third-party audits and regulatory inspections.

Perform Food Safety Duties:

  • Act as the SQF Practitioner or Back-up / PCQI
  • Perform Pre-Operational inspections and take actions when applicable.
  • Follow established Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide feedback on continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain food safety documentation to ensure compliance with FSMA and SQF standards.
  • Records review. Ensure that records are legible, clear, concise and accurate.
  • Document control and records keeping. Implement Good Documentation Practice.
  • Report to Management any of the following: pest activity, food defense or food fraud suspicious activities, evidence of product contamination.
  • Train employees on food safety and on-the-job trainings. Ensure training is effective through competencies evaluation (observation, group verbal questions, written).
  • Participate in monthly food safety meetings and food safety plan building, changes and/or verification.
  • Perform mock recalls.
  • Develop and oversee food safety training programs for employees to ensure full compliance with SQF, HACCP, and FSMA regulations.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and contractors to meet food safety requirements and gather documentation. Evaluate and supplier’s performance and food safety incident.
  • Follow-up on action plans resulting from food safety initiatives such as Pre-Operational inspections, internal/external audits, Critical Control Points and Preventative Control deviations.
  • Participate in documentation, training and implementation of food safety programs.

 

Role Qualifications:   

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 4 year college degree in microbiology or a related course of study highly preferred.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in a Food or Beverage manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of quality control experience in a factory or laboratory setting.
  • Driver’s license is required for making coordination with outside lab.
  • Must have strong and effective leadership skills, and the ability to successfully manage a staff of 30+ employees.
  • Experience in training, handling people and resolving conflicts.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Have the ability to work independently with little supervision, and part of a team as well.
  • Be available to work any hours assigned, 5 days or more per week, Monday- Saturday, including early mornings and late nights.

Computer Skills:

The position requires experience with computers, Windows proficiency, experience with e-mail, and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and other appropriate software.
