DNG stands for Digital Negative, which is a patented, open, lossless raw image format developed by Adobe. It is used primarily in photography to store image data captured by cameras in a way that preserves maximum detail and flexibility for post-processing. DNG files are favored for their compatibility across different software platforms and their ability to serve as a universal format for raw image files. Using DNG can help photographers ensure that their files remain accessible and editable over time, even as camera-specific raw formats become obsolete.
