Job Requirements
Position Overview
Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Data Engineer/Data Analyst supports data engineering, analytics, reporting, and decision-support initiatives in a secure Department of War (DoW) environment. This position is responsible for designing, building, maintaining, and optimizing data solutions primarily within the Army Vantage Platform, while also leveraging Power BI for visualization, reporting, and integration with enterprise data products.
The Data Engineer/Data Analyst will partner with mission stakeholders, analysts, developers, and platform teams through all phases of the data and analytics lifecycle, including requirements analysis, data ingestion, transformation, modeling, validation, visualization, troubleshooting, and sustainment. This role helps enable authoritative, scalable, and secure data products that improve operational insight, business intelligence, and decision-making across multiple Line of Business initiatives.
Essential Functions, Responsibilities, and Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
โ€ข Analyze business requirements, functional requirements, and data specifications to design and develop scalable data and analytics solutions.
โ€ข Design, build, and maintain data pipelines, curated data assets, analytical models, and reporting solutions within the Army Vantage Platform.
โ€ข Develop and support dashboards, reports, workflows, and operational data products for mission and business users.
โ€ข Leverage Power BI to create visualizations, dashboards, and executive-level reporting solutions using trusted and governed data sources.
โ€ข Perform data transformation, cleansing, normalization, and enrichment across structured and semi-structured data sources.
โ€ข Design and implement logical and physical data models that support reporting, analysis, and operational use cases.
โ€ข Develop and optimize SQL queries, procedures, and transformations to support data integration and reporting requirements.
โ€ข Troubleshoot data pipelines, analytics workflows, dashboards, and platform issues, including timely resolution of production problems.
โ€ข Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, acquire, validate, and govern data from multiple authoritative sources.
โ€ข Support data quality, data lineage, data governance, and traceability requirements across analytics solutions.
โ€ข Prepare, model, visualize, and analyze data to provide meaningful reporting and decision-support capabilities aligned to customer and mission needs.
โ€ข Incorporate DoW security requirements, access controls, and data protection measures into analytics and modernization efforts.
โ€ข Participate in architecture discussions, solution reviews, and platform improvement efforts related to Army Vantage, Power BI, SQL-based systems, and enterprise data environments.
โ€ข Develop, document, and implement data models for transactional systems, reporting solutions, dashboards, and enterprise analytics products.
โ€ข Produce clear technical documentation, user guidance, and solution artifacts to support sustainment and knowledge transfer.
โ€ข Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and deliver clear, accurate, and mission-relevant data solutions.
Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field; or possess equivalent relevant experience.
โ€ข Minimum of 72 months of related experience aligned to the position requirements.
โ€ข Demonstrated experience building end-to-end data and analytics solutions in:
o data integration
o data transformation
o data modeling
o data warehousing
o analytics
o dashboarding and reporting
โ€ข Strong experience with Army Vantage Platform or comparable Palantir Foundry-based enterprise analytics environments.
โ€ข Experience with Power BI, including dashboard development, semantic modeling, data shaping, DAX, and enterprise reporting.
โ€ข Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server, relational databases, and SQL development for reporting and analytics.
โ€ข Experience analyzing and transforming data using ETL/ELT techniques and platform-native data workflows.
โ€ข Understanding of data governance, authoritative data sourcing, data lineage, and data stewardship principles.
โ€ข Demonstrated understanding of database architecture design patterns and the complete application development and analytics lifecycle.
โ€ข Ability to design solutions that provide meaningful, accurate, and mission-relevant business intelligence outputs.
โ€ข Experience collaborating with analytics teams, application teams, and solution architects in a secure DoW environment.
โ€ข Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong business acumen, exceptional interpersonal capabilities, and close attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
โ€ข Experience building or maintaining data products, pipelines, and analytical workflows within Army Vantage.
โ€ข Experience with Palantir Foundry concepts such as data pipelines, ontology-backed data products, lineage, governed access, and operational analytics workflows.
โ€ข Experience integrating or consuming Army Vantage data within Power BI or similar enterprise visualization platforms.
โ€ข Experience supporting data solutions for Army, DoW, readiness, logistics, financial, or operational mission sets.
โ€ข Familiarity with agile delivery methodologies and iterative analytics development.
