What are the typical time management challenges faced by d1 student athletes, and how can they be addressed?

D1 Student Athletes often juggle demanding training schedules, frequent travel for competitions, and rigorous academic responsibilities. Balancing these commitments requires strong organizational skills and proactive communication with professors and coaches. Many athletes find success by using planners, prioritizing tasks, and taking advantage of academic support resources offered by their universities. Building a consistent routine and seeking help when overwhelmed can make managing these challenges more achievable.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a d1 student athlete, and why are they important?

To thrive as a D1 Student Athlete, you need exceptional athletic ability, time management skills, and the academic qualifications required by the NCAA and your institution. Familiarity with performance tracking technology, video analysis tools, and adherence to NCAA compliance systems is often necessary. Leadership, resilience, and teamwork are standout soft skills for balancing rigorous training with academic demands. These skills are crucial for excelling both in sport and academics, maintaining eligibility, and contributing positively to your team and campus community.

What are good jobs for college athletes?

College athletes, including D1 student athletes, often choose flexible jobs such as tutoring, campus ambassador roles, or internships that accommodate their training and game schedules. Part-time positions in retail, food service, or fitness centers can also be suitable, especially those offering evening or weekend hours. These jobs help develop skills like communication and time management while fitting around athletic commitments.

What is a d1 student athlete?

D1 student athletes are college students who compete at the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Division I is the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the NCAA in the United States. These athletes balance rigorous academic coursework with demanding training, practice, and competition schedules. They often receive athletic scholarships and represent their universities in national competitions. Being a D1 student athlete requires strong time management, discipline, and commitment to both sports and academics.

Can you have a job as a D1 student athlete?

D1 student athletes often face restrictions on employment due to NCAA rules and their demanding athletic schedules. While some may work limited hours or participate in internships during the off-season, full-time jobs are generally discouraged to prioritize academics and athletic commitments.

Job description

Texas Sports Academy is a K-12 school designed for serious student-athletes who want both elite academics and high-level athletic development. Students cover 2x the material in just 2 hours a day, using the same 2-Hour Learning model as Alpha Schools. That frees up their entire afternoon for serious training, where they work alongside former pro and D1 athletes coaching them at the highest standard.
We are hiring D1 Athlete Youth Mentors to work one-on-one with student-athletes over video, splitting your time evenly between academic guidance and sports mentorship. You are the steady adult in their day: sitting with them through their academic hours, holding the standard on focus and effort, and then using your Division I athletic experience to shape how they think about training, competition, and the life of a student-athlete.
What You'll Do
  • Guide Your Students Through Their Academic Day: Meet with your students one-on-one over video during their academic hours, keep them focused and on task, and help them move through their learning at pace.
  • Mentor Them as an Athlete: Use your Division I athletic background to talk with your students about the mental game, training habits, what real recruiting looks like, and how to balance school with serious sport.
  • Build a Real Relationship: Be the steady, credible adult each of your students looks to for guidance, accountability, and honest feedback across both school and sport.
  • Support Their Learning: Help your students navigate the learning platform, work through hard material, and build the study and time-management habits that carry them forward.
  • Reinforce Standards: Hold the line on effort, focus, and how they carry themselves. Give direct feedback when it is needed and give real praise when it is earned.
  • Communicate With Parents and Staff: Give parents and the academy clear, honest updates on how each student is doing academically, how they are showing up as an athlete, and what they need next.

Requirements
  • Division I Athletic Background: You competed at the Division I level in any sport. Your athletic experience is central to how you mentor, not a footnote on your resume.
  • Real Experience Working With Kids: You have worked with young people in a role where you were responsible for their focus, growth, or development. Coaching, tutoring, mentoring, camp counseling, teaching, or similar hands-on work.
  • Judgment With Young Athletes: You know how to earn trust with a kid, hold the standard, give direct feedback, and read the room when something is off.
  • Strong Communicator: You are clear and steady on video, comfortable running a one-on-one session, and able to give parents and staff useful updates in writing.
  • Reliable and Organized: You show up on time, follow through, and keep track of what each of your students needs next.
  • Location and Setup: Remote (U.S.). Reliable internet and a quiet space you can run video sessions from. U.S. work authorization required.

Bonus Points
  • Recent Graduate: You finished your college athletic career in the last few years and the student-athlete experience is fresh.
  • Coaching or Camp Experience: You have coached youth athletes, run a camp, or worked with kids in a structured athletic setting.
  • Teaching or Tutoring Background: You have taught, tutored, or led a classroom before.
  • Comfortable With Modern Tools: You are comfortable working across video, learning platforms, and messaging tools without much ramp-up.

Benefits
Pay: $25/hour
