JOB SUMMARY
Group Fitness Instructors provide a quality fitness experience in a group setting while maintaining standards of the recreation department with emphasis on customer service. Instructors can teach a variety of fitness classes within the schedule according to certification, experience, and ability. Classes include but are not limited to yoga, step, Pilates, dance, cardio class, cycling, weights, balance, core, walking, running, or other classes as assigned.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES
  • Sets up, prepares class format and music, greets students, provides clear direction, and cleans up after class for assigned schedule and other classes taught.
  • Educates participants on proper and safe exercise form; adjusts class content to fit participant needs.
  • Enforces policies and procedures in group fitness activity areas.
  • Attends continuing education workshops to maintain certification.
  • Provides substitution of classes when needed.
  • Responsible for continuing growth of assigned class and format changes when necessary.
  • Provides exceptional customer service before, during, and after each class.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and organization facility space, class equipment and stereo system; providing light maintenance and reporting of conditions beyond personal capability.
  • Attends meetings to assimilate program information, discuss policy, equipment needs and other pertinent information.

Required Qualifications:
  • Fitness instructor certification though a nationally recognized association (i.e. ACE, AFAA, other)
  • Equivalent experience in field of expertise (i.e. Karate Black Belt, years teaching experience)
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a group fitness instructor.
  • Previous class teaching experience.
