Summary of Responsibilities
- The Subject Matter Expert and adjunct instructor at the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy supports the development and delivery of high-quality fire service training.
- Under the direction of UFRA leadership, this role assists with curriculum development and teaches approved courses with measurable learning objectives.
- Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials such as course outlines, syllabi, exams, and visual aids; instructing, managing, and supervising learners in classroom, drill ground, and hands-on training environments using appropriate instructional and safety practices; and administering certification exams as assigned.
- The position also involves regular physical activity in instructional settings, including standing, walking, lifting, and working in active training environments.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Applicant must have 5 years of experience teaching Fire Science.
- Certified as a Fire Instructor.
- Certified in Firefighter I
- Certified at the HazMat awareness and operations level.
- Must be certified at or above the level of teaching or testing.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Knowledge of subject material and course content related to Fire Science.
- Knowledge of fire terminology and hydraulics for the fire service, operating fire apparatus.
- Knowledge of standards, regulations, and laws pertaining to fire science, including those pertaining to the Utah Fire Service, Certification System, and the NFPA.
- Knowledge of computer applications, including the Microsoft Suite.
- Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of instructional objectives and course development techniques.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skills with managing, preparing, and delivering courses in the classroom and in the field.
