Job description

Culver Franchising System, LLC is looking for a Director of Risk Management to own and advance risk management strategies and practices for the organization and across the Culver's system. This person is accountable to identify, evaluate and mitigate risk-related matters that may impact the business, our team members and/or our guests of the Culver's brand.
Essential Functions:
  • Procure and manage business insurance coverage for Culver Franchising System (CFS) and family restaurants
    • Conduct research on carriers and market conditions to identify the optimal approach for coverage at the best possible price
    • Conduct negotiations on program structure and policy terms working with carriers and brokers to optimize programs for both CFS and affinity programs appropriate for franchisees (e.g., property & casualty, cyber, trade name restoration)
    • Present insights and recommendations to officers of CFS for final decision
    • Oversee insurance claims process for CFS and family restaurants by providing direction on claims activities, monitoring claims frequency, and overseeing efforts to minimize claims volume
    • Support franchised restaurants by creating and managing preferred insurance vendor partnerships and assisting franchisees in establishing coverage as needed
  • Create and support enterprise risk management program for Culver's system restaurants, CFS and family restaurants
    • Develop policies, programs, and practices and conduct appropriate training to mitigate risk
    • Proactively assess and identify risk through assessments, bringing insights and recommendations to the business to optimize loss control and business continuity efforts
    • Provide expertise during risk/crisis events including, but not limited to, working closely with internal stakeholders
    • Continuous monitoring of risk-related topics in the industry, including compliance and risk trends, bringing knowledge and insights to the business
    • Conduct and lead periodic internal risk audits across the organization and report findings to senior leadership
  • Oversee workplace safety policies and practices across CFS and family restaurants
    • Provide subject matter expertise and direction for escalation issues
    • Oversee workplace safety program, policies, programs, and practices for CFS and conduct appropriate training to mitigate risk
    • Oversee the incident management process
  • Provide outreach to franchisee community
    • Engage in proactive dialogue with Culver's franchisees and franchisee leadership teams on a range of risk-related matters, including insurance, occupational safety and legal compliance
  • Oversee captive insurance program
    • Partner with existing third-party insurance broker to manage workers' compensation captive program
    • Manage and lead the optimization of the program working in conjunction with legal and finance
  • Lead and Develop Team Members - employ successful communication and coaching to enable individual and team success and engagement

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management or related field, Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience plus 3 years people management experience
  • Certification of Associate in Risk Management (ARM) preferred
  • Able to travel 20% of the time
  • Strong communication, relationship building and influencing skills
  • Possess a valid Driver's license and an acceptable driving record
