What is a cyber program manager?

Cyber Program Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating cybersecurity initiatives within an organization. They manage cybersecurity projects, ensure compliance with regulations, allocate resources, and communicate with stakeholders to reduce cyber risks. These managers often lead teams, develop security strategies, and monitor the progress of multiple cybersecurity efforts to protect sensitive information and systems.

To thrive as a Cyber Program Manager, you need expertise in cybersecurity principles, program management, risk assessment, and a relevant bachelor’s degree, often supplemented by experience in IT or information security. Familiarity with NIST frameworks, project management tools like MS Project, and certifications such as CISSP or PMP are typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help drive teams, manage stakeholders, and adapt to evolving threats.
