Responsibilities for this Position
Electrical Hardware Engineer - FPGA, Networking & Cyber Infrastructure
As an Electrical Hardware Engineer specializing in FPGA, networking, and cyber infrastructure at General Dynamics Mission Systems, you will design, develop, and integrate hardware subsystems that deliver secure, high-performance networking capabilities within mission-critical defense systems. FPGA design and development is central to this role, enabling reconfigurable hardware solutions at the heart of our networking and cyber architecture. You will contribute directly to hardware architecture discussions, component selection, PCB and FPGA design, and network stack implementation, working alongside a talented multidisciplinary team from concept through final installation. Experience in commercial networking hardware or telecommunications is welcome.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong hardware foundation and genuine curiosity to grow across networked and cyber-resilient system design, typically bringing 5-10 years of relevant experience across some combination of FPGA design and HDL programming, network stack implementation and physical layer design, PCB layout and schematic analysis, and cybersecurity principles applied to hardware - including encryption algorithms, secure boot, and trusted platform architectures. We don't expect expertise in every area and evaluate all applicants based on demonstrated skills and potential, equally welcoming candidates from defense, commercial networking, telecommunications, and semiconductor backgrounds.
At General Dynamics Mission Systems, you will perform hands-on, research-oriented work alongside award-winning teams developing practical solutions for our nation's security, with a natural career path toward technical leadership, systems architecture, or program engineering as your expertise grows. We actively encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply - what we care about most is your potential, your curiosity, and your commitment to excellence. We offer flexible schedules with every other Friday off (9/80 schedule), competitive benefits including 401k matching, flex time off, paid parental leave, healthcare benefits, and health & wellness programs, and more.
