How much do cyber data analyst jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 30, 2026, the average yearly pay for cyber data analyst in the United States is $107,522.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $91,500.00 and $126,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a cyber data analyst do?

A cyber data analyst examines security data to identify, investigate, and respond to cyber threats and vulnerabilities. They use tools like data analysis software and security information and event management (SIEM) systems to monitor network activity, analyze patterns, and support cybersecurity efforts. Strong analytical skills and knowledge of cybersecurity principles are essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Cyber Data Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cyber Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of cybersecurity principles, and a degree in computer science, information security, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk), data analytics software, and certifications like CompTIA Security+ or Certified Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+) are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help analysts detect threats and present findings clearly to stakeholders. These skills are crucial for identifying vulnerabilities, mitigating cyber risks, and ensuring the organization's digital assets remain secure.

Can you make $500,000 a year in cyber security?

Cyber Data Analysts typically earn salaries ranging from $70,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on experience, certifications, and location. Reaching a $500,000 annual salary is uncommon for this role and usually requires advanced positions such as cybersecurity executives or specialists with extensive expertise and leadership responsibilities.

Is 40 too old for cyber security?

Cyber Data Analysts and other cybersecurity professionals can successfully start or advance their careers at age 40 or older. Success in cybersecurity depends on skills, certifications, and experience, not age, and many employers value diverse backgrounds and lifelong learning. Continuous education and staying current with industry tools like SIEMs and threat analysis are important regardless of age.

What is a Cyber Data Analyst?

A Cyber Data Analyst is a professional who analyzes data to identify and mitigate cybersecurity threats within an organization. They use statistical and analytical tools to detect unusual patterns, investigate security incidents, and help improve an organization's security posture. Their work often involves monitoring network traffic, analyzing logs, and collaborating with IT and cybersecurity teams to ensure sensitive data remains protected. This role is essential in preventing cyber attacks and responding effectively when breaches occur.

How does a Cyber Data Analyst typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Cyber Data Analysts frequently work cross-functionally, partnering with IT security teams, network engineers, and management to identify and address potential security threats. They analyze large data sets for unusual patterns, then communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This role often involves translating complex data insights into actionable recommendations, contributing to overall cybersecurity strategies, and sometimes participating in incident response efforts. Effective collaboration and clear communication are essential for ensuring timely and accurate threat mitigation.

What is the difference between Cyber Data Analyst vs Cyber Security Analyst?

The main difference is that Cyber Data Analysts focus on analyzing and interpreting cybersecurity data to identify trends and vulnerabilities, while Cyber Security Analysts primarily focus on protecting systems from threats and responding to security incidents. Both roles require similar certifications and often work within the same industries, but their core responsibilities differ in data analysis versus security enforcement.

Is AI replacing data analysts?

AI is transforming the role of a cyber data analyst by automating routine data processing and analysis tasks, allowing analysts to focus on complex problem-solving and strategic insights. While AI tools can enhance efficiency, human expertise remains essential for interpreting results, making decisions, and ensuring data quality in cybersecurity contexts.
