Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Graphite growth material cleaning and finishing for installation into CVD furnaces with repeatability, close attention to detail and following established operating procedures.
  • Loading and unloading of zinc casting furnace, casting material for use in CVD furnaces.
  • Operator support during disassembly and assembly of CVD growth furnaces for efficient preparation of CVD production runs.
  • General labor cleaning and organizing of production areas following assembly and closing of production furnaces.
  • Strictly adhere to established procedures, policies, and protocols to reduce the risk of accidental release or exposure to highly toxic materials.
  • Participate in the Process Safety Management (PSM) process to maintain compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) standards. Learn and follow DEP standards for safe handling and storage of hazardous waste.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in the CVD department

Education & Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • 1 to 3 years of manufacturing experience preferred.

Skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to following strict safety protocols.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to work with small, delicate components.
  • Strong communication skills for accurate reporting and data logging.
  • Moderate mechanical aptitude is required for process connections and system maintenance.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with department management, maintenance, and trained CVD Systems operators/leads to address training needs, to support successful training and task completion.
  • Must be able to understand and meet the MPZ CVD schedule, performance and operating requirements and demands.
  • Must learn to perform all aspects of a CVD Assembly Prep Technician safely and completely within training period.
  • Ability to model, lead, motivate, and influence effectively using I CARE values (Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Enthusiasm).

Working Conditions
  • Multiple-shift rotation to support a 24/7/365 operation.
  • Involves the handling and storage of toxic substances requiring significant attention to detail.
  • Regular exposure to dust, fumes, heat, noise and cold

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand or sit for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lb's occasionally.
  • Must be able to climb, bend, reach, push and pull regularly.
  • Must be able to work on elevated surfaces such as ladders or mechanical lifts.
  • Must be able to wear required equipment during the performance of specified production operations.
  • Must be able to function mentally and physically while wearing safety equipment for extended periods.

Safety Requirements
All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and COHERENT Corporate EHS standards.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements:
  • Must be able to wear proper PPE including safety glasses, goggle, splash shields, steel toe/metatarsal shoes, long pants, sleeved uniform, and hearing protection.
  • Must be able to wear a dust mask.

Quality and Environmental Responsibilities
Due to inventory quantities of some highly hazardous materials, MPZ is covered by OSHA standard for Process Safety Management, as well as EPA's Risk Management program. All MPZ personnel are required to understand the importance of following all operating procedures to maintain regulatory compliance with these programs.
Due to classification of several process waste streams, DEP standards for Hazardous Waste handling and storage must be followed to ensure regulatory compliance.
Coherent meets the ISO 9001 quality standards. MPZ employees must understand and follow all applicable Quality Assurance policies and participate in audits to maintain ISO 9001 certification.
Failure to follow operating procedures could result in a release of hazardous materials, impacting employees and the environment.
