Job description

Primary Purpose
Directs and optimizes international trade operations to ensure the compliant, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods across global borders. This position administers all aspects of U.S. Customs compliance, oversees the completion and accuracy of import and export documentation and leads transportation planning efforts. Serving as a subject matter expert in applicable trade regulations, the role provides guidance to internal stakeholders, drives continuous improvement in logistics processes, and safeguards end to end supply chain continuity. Additionally, this position coordinates all inbound and outbound logistics, warehousing functions, and transportation activities to ensure the timely, accurate, and reliable flow of goods and materials.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads complex logistics activities that impact transportation efficiency, inventory availability, or service performance.
  • Performs advanced analysis of logistics data to identify root causes and develop improvement recommendations.
  • Designs and executes targeted initiatives to improve logistics cost, service levels, or throughput.
  • Resolves escalated logistics issues involving cross-functional or multi-site coordination.
  • Leads defined logistics projects with clear scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Coordinates logistics planning efforts across procurement, operations, and supply chain teams.
  • Communicates findings, recommendations, and risks to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Mentors junior professionals through coaching and knowledge sharing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
  • Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience

  • Distribution and Logistics Strategy - The planning and implementation of strategies that optimize the movement and storage of goods from suppliers to customers.
  • Freight Management - The process of efficiently and strategically moving freight across a network from its point of origin to its desired destination using various modes of transportation, intermediaries, and technologies.
  • Inventory Management - Managing overall inventory by controlling, overseeing, maintaining and storing products for sale. Ensuring proper inventory management to support all order fulfillment.
  • Inventory/Material Control - The process of managing and controlling the flow of materials and inventory within a supply chain to ensure availability and minimize costs.
  • KPI/Metric Monitoring - The monitoring of performance indicators that demonstrate how effectively a company is achieving key business objectives.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • US Customs Law: Comprehensive understanding of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations including HTSUS classification, valuation, country of origin determination, and duty assessment.
  • Expert-level knowledge of import and export compliance requirements, including EAR, ITAR, OFAC, BIS regulations, and ACE/Automated Broker Interface procedures.
  • Familiarity with ERP (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and documentation platforms used in import/export operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes.
  • High proficiency in documentation management, including accuracy, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple shipments and compliance priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for coordination with customs brokers, carriers, suppliers, government agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and resolve customs or logistics exceptions.
