Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on international Logistics & Customs Specialist to join our Houston-based team. This role is responsible for supporting international logistics operations, customs coordination, import/export documentation, and trade compliance activities for shipments between the U.S., Mexico, China, and global suppliers/customers.
The ideal candidate will have experience in manufacturing or industrial environments and be comfortable coordinating with customs brokers, freight forwarders, warehouses, suppliers, and internal cross-functional teams to ensure smooth and compliant international transportation operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage international inbound and outbound shipments via ocean, air, truck, and parcel transportation
• Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and warehouses to ensure timely customs clearance and delivery
• Prepare and review shipping and customs documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and related import/export documents
• Support compliance with U.S. import/export regulations including CBP, EAR, OFAC, and USMCA requirements
• Assist with HTS classification, country of origin verification, and trade documentation accuracy
• Track shipments and proactively resolve transportation delays, customs holds, freight discrepancies, or delivery issues
• Support freight cost control, shipment visibility, and logistics process improvements
• Collaborate with procurement, warehouse, production, sales, and finance teams to support material flow and on-time deliveries
• Maintain accurate shipment and customs records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
• Work with global teams to support logistics coordination, SOP documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Monitor transportation and trade-related updates including tariffs, customs procedures, and logistics impacts affecting business operations
Requirements
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, Business Administration, or related field preferred
Professional Experience
• 3-5 years of experience in international logistics, customs coordination, freight forwarding, trade compliance, or supply chain operations
• Experience supporting manufacturing, automotive, industrial, or global supply chain operations preferred
• Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and transportation providers
Skills
• Working knowledge of U.S. import/export processes and international shipping documentation
• Familiarity with HTS classification, Incoterms, and USMCA documentation requirements
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously
• Strong communication and cross-functional coordination skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook
• Experience with ERP systems, freight management systems, or customs platforms is a plus
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting cross-border logistics between the U.S. and Mexico
• Experience in automotive or heavy industrial manufacturing environments
• Knowledge of ACE portal, AES filing processes, or customs documentation systems
