What does a customer success manager do?

A customer success manager is the primary point of contact for clients of companies that provide online sales and services. As a customer success manager, your responsibilities include onboarding new clients, nurturing customer relationships, and providing value to your clients. Your job duties also include opening new accounts, responding to customer inquiries, educating customers about products and services, and leveraging data analysis to develop solutions. Depending on the company's size and scope, you may have a specified caseload of client accounts, or you may handle all customer relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a customer success manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Customer Success Manager, you need strong relationship-building, problem-solving, and account management skills, typically backed by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Excellent communication, empathy, and proactive thinking help you anticipate client needs and drive customer satisfaction. These skills and qualities are crucial for retaining clients, driving product adoption, and ensuring long-term business growth.

About Maddox + You
As a member of our Customer Success Operations team, you will be a primary stakeholder for our enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Your focus will be on entering new sales orders into the ERP and updating them throughout their life cycle. Your work ensures that our customers receive accurate order confirmations, the correct products, and that our internal teams have the accurate, timely data they need to perform their job functions. Attention to detail and organizational skills are paramount in this role. You will also be responsible for answering general customer service phone calls and directing callers to the appropriate parties to resolve their issues.
This position is one of Maddox's oldest commercial positions, with a proven playbook and a strong team, but we are growing rapidly, so adaptability is critical in this role.
More About You:
  • You are technically savvy with modern platforms (Google Suites, etc). If you prefer a more old-school approach (i.e., stacks of sticky notes), you will struggle in this role.
  • You have keen attention to detail and can perform recurring tasks accurately and precisely, particularly regarding data entry.
  • You are autonomous and capable of managing your own time and workflows.
  • You are comfortable with phone communication and able to think quickly on your feet during conversations.
  • You are capable of balancing multiple tasks without becoming overwhelmed.
  • You welcome constructive feedback to help you develop in your role.

Basics
  • Full-time. The schedule is generally 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
  • Drug-free workplace.

Comprehensive Full-Time Benefits, including:
  • 3 Weeks Paid Time Off (PTO) (and an additional week for managers, and an additional week after 5 years).
  • Health & Wellness: Can be taken as traditional insurance, or as cash in lieu of benefits. Benefit amounts vary based on age, family status, and eligibility, but as an example, in most circumstances, an employee with a spouse and 3 kids, would be eligible for $19,200 / year or more.
  • Paid paternity/maternity leave
  • 401k with 100% match up to 8% of wages.
  • Paid holidays, marriage and family gifts to celebrate significant life events, and other reimbursements and voluntary benefits and coverages (such as Vision, Dental, Short Term Disability, Additional Life Insurance, Accident, etc), as eligible.

Skills & Experience
Experience with ERP systems is great, but not required. If you are aligned with our Core Values and have a teachable attitude, you are a candidate for this position.
Pro Tip: We get a LOT of applicants, so if you want to stand out, write a few sentences telling us what stood out to you, and why you think you'd thrive in this particular opportunity.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay range = (wages + bonus)
  • Comprehensive full-time benefits package averaging $20,000+ per year (amount varies based on age, family size, and eligibility), including:
    • Health & wellness benefits (insurance or cash-in-lieu options)
    • Paid maternity and paternity leave
    • 401(k) with 100% match up to 8% of wages
    • Paid holidays, PTO, and family-life gifts
    • Vision, dental, disability, life insurance, and other voluntary benefits

Annual Range
$64,400-$69,600 USD
