Job description

Position Summary/Objective

The Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing all inbound and outbound logistics, shipping and receiving, and warehouse operations in support of AstroNova’s manufacturing, repair, and aftermarket businesses globally. This role ensures that materials and finished goods move accurately, efficiently, and compliantly while protecting production schedules, customer commitments, inventory accuracy, and cost objectives.

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Logistics Manager works closely with Supply Chain, Purchasing, Planning, Quality, Global Trade Compliance, and Finance to ensure logistics execution aligns with operational priorities, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily inbound and outbound logistics activities, including domestic and international shipments.
  • Ensure timely receipt of materials to support production schedules, repair activities, and on time delivery (OTD) performance.
  • Coordinate shipments of finished goods, repairs, loan units, and returns (RMA) to customers and suppliers.
  • Lead shipping and receiving teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant material movement.
  • Ensure packaging, labeling, handling, and documentation meet internal, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee warehouse operations, material flow, storage practices, and space utilization.
  • Partner with Planning and Operations to support inventory accuracy, cycle counts, and physical inventory execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement in material movement, layout optimization, and dock to stock performance.
  • Manage relationships with freight carriers, freight forwarders, and logistics service providers.
  • Monitor freight spend and support cost reduction initiatives while maintaining service levels.
  • Ensure logistics personnel are properly trained in export shipping requirements and trade compliance fundamentals, including awareness of ITAR, EAR, and customer specific export controls as applicable.
  • Coordinate, track, and enforce required export compliance and shipping training for shipping, receiving, and warehouse personnel in alignment with company policy and audit requirements.
  • Ensure accurate execution and record retention for export/import documentation, shipping records, and transactional history.
  • Partner with Global Trade Compliance, Quality, and HR to address training gaps, corrective actions, and ongoing audit readiness.
  • Work closely with Operations, Repair Services, Customer Service, and Quality to support shipments, returns, and customer commitments.
  • Execute logistics transactions accurately and consistently within NetSuite ERP.
  • Establish, track, and report logistics KPIs, including OTD, freight performance, dock to stock time, inventory accuracy, and shipping cycle time.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve throughput, accuracy, compliance, and responsiveness.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop shipping, receiving, and warehouse personnel.
  • Establish clear expectations, standard work, and accountability across logistics functions.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of logistics, warehouse, or distribution experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of inbound and outbound logistics, freight coordination, and warehouse operations.
  • Working knowledge of export shipping requirements and trade compliance fundamentals.
  • Experience within an ERP/MRP environment (NetSuite preferred).
  • Ability to train, coach, and enforce compliance expectations across frontline teams.
  • Strong communication and cross functional collaboration skills.

Additional Preferred Skills, Experience, and Certifications

  • Experience supporting aerospace, electronics, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Prior people leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with international shipping, RMAs, repair logistics, and loan unit processes.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement exposure.


Physical Requirements

This position is a mix of sedentary and mobile work; requiring the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. The role also requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. It requires the ability to lift up to 35lbs. It requires the use of a computer for extended periods of time.
