Job description

SMT Machining is a custom motorcycle wheel manufacturer in the Glendale area. We are a family ran and operated manufacturing facility with 20 years in the motorcycle industry.

Job Summary
We are a small family owned and operated shop with a large name in the motorcycle industry. We are currently seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines to produce precision parts and components according to work instructions and drawing specifications. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with various machining tools and equipment. The CNC Machinist will play a crucial role in ensuring product quality and efficiency in our manufacturing processes with room for growth as lead machinist.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and ability to properly interpret drawings and work instructions.
  • Ability to use measuring tools including, but not limited to, micrometers, calipers, thread gages, bore gages, dial and test indicators and height gages.
  • Ability to mount and load tooling, fixtures, vises, jaws and touch off all tooling, set offsets and set work zeros.
  • Ability to produce a first piece inspection part.
  • Basic trouble shooting of speeds & feeds, tool application and wear.
  • Ability to train operators to run and inspect parts approved for production.
  • Have a clear understanding of the HAAS operation system on both lathe and mills.

Duties & expectations:

  • Operate a CNC machine in a manner that is safe, producing quality product and meeting production expectations set forth by management.
  • Utilize CNC programs, set up tools, fixtures, work zeros and set up machines with first piece approval.
  • Work with QC to get the first piece approved and in-process inspection plans in place. Request all inspection or set up gages required to check parts at the machine.
  • Work with programmers for any technical issues or trouble shooting when needed.
  • Mentor operators (all shifts) to properly run production and document inspection, as required.
  • Identify continuous improvement of processes.
  • Communicate any concerns or issues related to production of parts, safety, and quality to supervisor.
  • Ensure that the FOD program is being adhered to during production activities.
  • Only use calibrated measuring equipment whether personal or company supplied. 
  • Handle inspection equipment, machines and parts in a manner that will not cause damage or compromise integrity.
  • In the event of lack of work or another department needing assistance, you are expected to do any of the following, not limited to: Cleaning, Operator, Manual Machining, Tool Management, Inspection of ongoing production parts.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and punctuality.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Be a team player in a team-work environment.
  • Aware of quality policies, procedures, objectives, contribution to conformance of product, safety and ethics.

This is for a full time position from 7am-3:30 pm Mon-Fri

Starting pay will be determined based off of experience. Pay will be between $20-$27/ HR With lead machinist opportunity.
