Curriculum Development Specialist / Deputy InstructorEngagement: Part-time
Work location: Remote support with recurring in-person performance at approved locations in IndianaPosition summaryThe Curriculum Development Specialist / Deputy Instructor converts program research and training needs into a structured, competency-based learning experience. The position develops and maintains all instructional products, co-facilitates in-person courses, supports virtual sessions, and provides qualified backup coverage for the Lead Instructor.Essential responsibilities
  • Design, document, and update the Junior Leadership Development Training Program and its learning objectives, modules, lesson plans, exercises, and facilitator guides.
  • Develop content covering conflict resolution, strategic thinking, motivation, tactical execution, communication, mentorship, and leadership application.
  • Translate market-analysis, organizational-audit, and interview findings into relevant learning scenarios and case studies.
  • Create physical and digital participant workbooks, presentation decks, assessments, exercises, discussion guides, and Leadership Improvement Plan templates.
  • Develop pre- and post-training assessments that measure knowledge, engagement, skill development, and practical application.
  • Co-facilitate quarterly half-day workshops and two-day courses; lead selected monthly virtual sessions and provide instructor backup as needed.
  • Support team-based exercises, role-playing activities, mentorship discussions, participant coaching, and final project presentations.
  • Maintain version control and consistency across physical and digital training products and ensure materials are ready before each event.
  • Ensure curriculum reflects NGR 601-1, the Army Leader Development Strategy, and AR 350-1, and apply improvements identified through feedback, supervisor evaluations, and quarterly reporting.
Minimum qualifications
  • At least five years of teaching, training, instructional design, curriculum development, or facilitation experience when assigned to instructor duties.
  • Demonstrated experience developing competency-based adult-learning content, assessments, and facilitator materials.
  • Strong classroom and virtual facilitation skills, including the ability to manage discussions and experiential learning activities.
  • Excellent writing, editing, organization, presentation-design, and quality-review skills.
  • Ability to travel within Indiana and work scheduled evenings or weekends when required.
  • Ability to satisfy applicable installation-access, background-investigation, CAC, and mandatory training requirements if required for the assignment.
Preferred qualifications
  • Valid teaching license, instructional-design credential, adult-learning certification, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Prior military service as an NCO or Officer or experience creating training for military audiences.
  • Experience with leadership-development programs, training-needs assessments, learning-management systems, and blended learning.
  • Familiarity with Army leader-development doctrine, recruiting organizations, and military case-study development.
Measures of success
  • Training materials are accurate, engaging, instruction-ready, and available in required physical and digital formats.
  • Curriculum remains aligned to identified leadership gaps and Government-directed outcomes.
  • Backup delivery can occur without disruption or a material decline in training quality.
