Position Summary
The Assistant/Associate Professor (Series I/Series II) in the Graduate Nursing Program at MSM will contribute to teaching, research, clinical practice, and service activities. This full-time, on-site, 12-month position will work closely with the Chair and Program Director to develop and deliver course content across the didactic, clinical, and simulation curricula.
Duties include teaching, scholarship, academic advising, clinical practice, service, and professional activities. Faculty also serve on admissions, curriculum, and student progress committees and facilitate student assessment, remediation, and ongoing program evaluation. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the MSM Mission. This is a non-tenure track position, eligible for a multi-year appointment. MSM employs a time-and-effort certification to account for the professional effort of all faculty.
Faculty are responsible for a 3-3-2 teaching load (3 courses in Fall and Spring; 2 courses in Summer). Faculty operate within the MSM framework of lifelong learning through innovative teaching, learner-centered curricula, collaborative scholarship, and clinical excellence. The faculty member will participate in team-based innovative learning models, curriculum development, student mentorship, and scholarly endeavors that align with MSM's focus on health equity and serving underserved communities.
Key Responsibilities:
โ€ข Teach graduate-level nursing courses and contribute to curriculum development.
โ€ข Engage in research and scholarly activities relevant to nursing and health disparities.
โ€ข Mentor and advise graduate nursing students.
โ€ข Support other MSM faculty in other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director
and/or Chair.
โ€ข Assist in the recruitment, evaluation, and maintenance of quality clinical sites, the faculty
development of volunteer clinical preceptors, and the assignment and scheduling of clinical
year rotations and electives.
โ€ข Participate in an ongoing schedule of periodic site visits to evaluate students on clinical
rotation and to evaluate clinical sites and the supervision provided by clinical preceptors.
โ€ข Assist Chair/program director and/or his/her designee with curriculum development and
ongoing program progress.
โ€ข Assist in the admission, remediation, and retention of nursing students during didactic,
clinical, and simulation educational training.
โ€ข Serve on committees and subcommittees related to education and curriculum, and serve as a
resource to other committees as necessary.
โ€ข Participate in accreditation self-study application, and site visits activities necessary in
acquiring provisional and continuing program accreditation.
โ€ข Assist program director and/or his/her designee with accreditation documentation and
problem-solving activities related to the didactic and clinical curriculum.
โ€ข Participate in educational research and scholarship to foster a learning community of
educator-scholars who will ensure educational excellence for all students.
โ€ข Performs other duties as assigned by the program director and or his/her
โ€ข Participate in national, regional, and state professional organizations.
โ€ข Participate in service activities within the institution and the broader community.
โ€ข Collaborate with colleagues to advance the mission of the Graduate Nursing Program.
Minimum Qualifications
โ€ข Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
โ€ข An active, unencumbered Georgia RN and (midwifery or APRN license)
โ€ข Evidence of effective teaching and scholarly activity.
โ€ข Must be able to work full-time in person; this is not a hybrid position
โ€ข Commitment to advancing health equity through education and research.
โ€ข Current APRN/CNM certification and eligible for licensure in Georgia.
โ€ข Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in complex
interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.
โ€ข Demonstrated innovation in diverse methods of teaching delivery models
โ€ข Minimum 2 years of experience in clinical or classroom experience.
โ€ข Expertise in adult learning pedagogy, remediation, learning, and assessment, and
demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to current trends in nursing
education.
*Non-RN/NP/CNM Faculty Candidates:
In lieu of teaching experience and the required nursing certification, candidates must demonstrate at least 2 years of clinical or classroom teaching in the specified field of study. Individuals with eligible licensure (e.g., MD, PharmD) must have an unencumbered Georgia license.
