The success of SCC is rooted in the mission of serving the community by "focusing on academic excellence, student success, workforce advancement, and life-long learning within a global society."POSITION SUMMARYThe Culinary Specialist teaches in SCC's culinary program, including credit courses, certificates, and community education offerings. Working in collaboration with the Executive Director, Dean, and instructional team, this position supports curriculum delivery, contributes to course development, and participates in field-to-table initiatives and other events.This position teaches high-quality culinary curriculum that integrates agriculture, nutrition, and culinary arts. Primary responsibilities include instruction in both credit and non-credit courses, participation in campus and community culinary events, and supporting the operations of the SCC Café Market.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTeach a variety of culinary courses with an emphasis on field-to-table principles, current industry trends, and sustainable practices.Foster a collaborative, engaging, and hands-on learning environment that emphasizes experiential learning.Support program alignment with American Culinary Federation (ACF) standards and industry needs.Participate in interdisciplinary learning experiences in collaboration with program leadership.Assist in evaluating program effectiveness by providing feedback and supporting continuous improvement efforts.Promote experiential learning through assistance with culinary competitions, guest chef demonstrations, community events, and market-based projects.Participate in and assist with public-facing culinary events, demonstrations, and partnerships that enhance SCC's culinary visibility.As needed, support of the daily operations of the SCC Café Market.Assist with the proper use and maintenance of kitchen facilities, equipment, and supplies in coordination with program leadership.Ensure adherence to health, sanitation, and food handling regulations and teach students best-practice safety standards.Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant teaching environment that aligns with OSHA and ServSafe standards.As requested, contribute to the development and review of course materials, syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments that promote student learning and professional readiness.Evening and weekend hours may be required for community education, college events, or café/market operations.Other duties as assigned. PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIESTeaching experience in the community and/or the academic settingExperience working in the banquet setting EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEAssociate or Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry, Hospitality Management, or a related field and three years of experience in higher education or professional culinary work OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.St. Charles Community College is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
