Position Responsibilities:

The Career and Technical Education Academic Support Paraprofessional provides supplemental instructional support to students participating in Career and Technical Education pathways, with a focus on strengthening the academic skills needed for success in CTE coursework, postsecondary readiness, and career readiness. This position supports students who are failing, or at risk of failing, to meet challenging state academic standards by reinforcing teacher-planned instruction, assisting with academic skill development, supporting student organization and engagement, and helping students apply reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and problem-solving skills within CTE learning experiences.
 

This position does not replace the role of the certified CTE teacher, general education teacher, special education provider, counselor, or CTE program administrator. The paraprofessional works under the meaningful direction and supervision of a certified teacher and may not be assigned full responsibility for instruction, assessment, grading, curriculum design, or determining student mastery.

1. Provide supplemental one-on-one or small-group academic support to students, as planned by the certified teacher, to reinforce reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and problem-solving skills embedded in CTE coursework.
2. Assist students with understanding technical vocabulary, workplace texts, safety documents, procedural directions, rubrics, project requirements, and career-related reading materials.
3. Support students in completing written components of CTE coursework, including reflections, technical reports, career research, employability documents, project summaries, and other teacher-assigned academic tasks.
4. Reinforce applied mathematics skills connected to CTE learning, such as measurement, estimation, data interpretation, budgeting, sequencing, proportions, formulas, and workplace calculations, when these skills have been introduced by the teacher.
5. Assist the certified teacher with classroom and lab organization, instructional materials, student checklists, learning stations, student progress folders, and other materials that support supplemental instruction.
6. Provide instructional assistance in computer-based or technology-supported learning environments when students are using approved instructional platforms, career exploration tools, assessment preparation materials, or teacher-assigned digital resources.
7. Support students with organization, task initiation, assignment completion, attendance follow-up, and progress monitoring so students remain engaged in CTE coursework and connected to academic expectations.
8. Reinforce teacher-directed lessons, interventions, and follow-up activities for individuals or small groups of students.
   Assist with documenting student participation, intervention dosage, assignment completion, progress toward academic goals, and other records needed to evaluate the effectiveness of Title I-supported services.
   
9. Support family engagement and student communication activities related to academic progress, CTE success, career readiness, and postsecondary planning, as directed by the teacher or building administrator.
10. Participate in training related to Title I requirements, paraprofessional responsibilities, CTE program expectations, student confidentiality, safety procedures, and district instructional support systems.
11. Maintain confidentiality of student records and comply with district, state, and federal requirements.
     
    

Qualifications:

To be employed in a Title I-supported instructional paraprofessional role, the individual must meet MDE Title I paraprofessional qualification requirements. MDE identifies three options: completion of at least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education, equal to 60 semester hours; an associate degree or higher; or passage of an approved formal state academic assessment demonstrating the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics or readiness skills.
The paraprofessional must also demonstrate:
 

• Ability to support students respectfully and effectively.
• Ability to reinforce teacher-planned academic instruction.
• Basic understanding of reading, writing, mathematics, and technology skills needed for CTE success.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work collaboratively with certified teachers, CTE staff, counselors, administrators, and support staff.
• Willingness to complete district-required safety, Title I, and paraprofessional training.
   
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with high school students.
• Experience in a CTE, career readiness, workforce development, skilled trades, business, technology, health science, education, or related setting.
• Familiarity with career exploration, employability skills, technical vocabulary, or applied academics.
• Experience supporting students who need additional academic, behavioral, organizational, or attendance support.
   
  

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of basic research-based classroom management strategies and academic interventions in the areas of literacy and math.
• Ability to work with students and staff in a professional manner.

Salary: $22.50/hour
Contract: 193 day calendar
