The Network Administrator will assist with the daily administration and maintenance of the library's network. Provide assistance in other areas of Library Technology, such as vendor coordination, branch field visits, and construction meetings. Help library customers and staff when they use services related to the data network infrastructure. This position requires 24/7 accessibility to assist on-site IT staff and external vendors with major network outages and to serve as a contact for Security in cases involving HVAC, BMS, cameras, power failures, or other major Data Center alarms. This position reports to the Manager of IT Network Operations.

This is a non-union, exempt position. The salary range for this position is $64,8000 - $97,200.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement BPL's IT network infrastructure.

  • Configure, install, and maintain network equipment such as routers, firewalls, switches, wireless APs, and other internetworking devices.

  • Provide level 3 support for troubleshooting network infrastructure issues.

  • Assist in supporting the Library's Windows desktop and server systems.

  • Assist in supporting the Library's Telecommunications systems.

  • Monitor network infrastructure performance and create network usage reports.

  • Coordinate arrangements for vendor support services.

  • Recommends, maintains, and develops network security plans, analyzes network usage reports, and reviews log files.

  • Troubleshoots network security problems.

  • Research, revise, and suggest future network technology solutions.

  • Will perform physical maintenance or repair on Library infrastructure devices.

  • Organizes, completes, and maintains technology documentation, updating relevant records, files, lists, logs, forms, and other documentation as needed.

  • Rack and mount branch and Central servers as well as network devices

  • Member of the Information Technology R&D team.

  • Offer training and assistance in using the implemented technology as necessary.

  • Accepts additional responsibilities related to Infrastructure Administration as assigned by supervisors.

  • This position requires 24/7 accessibility to troubleshoot and resolve major network failures affecting access, telecom, security alarms, cameras, HVAC, and related systems.

  • While performing this job, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Three years of experience configuring, maintaining, and supporting networks (desktops, servers, routers, switches, etc.).

  • Technical support in a complex multi-domain enterprise environment.

  • Successful completion of network certifications, or on-the-job training/experience-

  • Valid (NY, CT. NJ, PA) driver's license and good driving record.

Technical knowledge and skills in the following applications and environments:

  • Experience in Networking architecture and design

  • Internetworking devices such as routers, switches, access points, and firewalls.

  • Microsoft Windows Server and desktop operating systems

  • UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems

  • Troubleshooting & resolving infrastructure-related issues

  • LAN/WAN environments, & related network protocols.

  • Security practices & Technologies

  • Familiarity with SAN, VMware, Azure, AWS, Active Directory, etc.

  • Experience with network monitoring, diagnostics, and analysis tools such as SolarWinds and Plixer
