Job description

MMC, powered by APi Group, is looking for a Project Buyer to join our driven and dedicated Mission Critical Construction team in Sullivan, IN for the next year. You can reside anywhere but will need to be in Sullivan, IN during the week for the duration of this project. You will receive a monthly housing allowance while you are working on this project for the next 12 months, to cover the additional expenses of working on the road. A successful Project Buyer has a passion for procurement in a fast-paced environment, a strong attention to detail and sense of adventure in their everyday work and tasks. In addition, the incumbent must have the versatility to excel at all levels of work - from the mundane to the pivotal.
Mission Critical Projects
This role supports our Mission Critical Project group along with 5 separate operating companies of APi HVAC Services; Metropolitan Mechanical Contractors (MN), NAC Mechanical & Electrical Services (MN), Grunau (WI), Tessier's (SD) and Merit Contracting (MN). This position will be based on our job site in Sullivan, IN.
Role Responsibilities:
  • Procure items and services at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements, and other factors
  • Identify procurement and delivery risks and drive resolution through expediting, alternate sourcing, or recovery plans to protect project timelines.
  • Use ERP systems to manage procurement activity, track purchase orders, monitor inventory needs, and ensure data accuracy across the supply chain.
  • Arrange returns for unacceptable products to suppliers
  • Travel between job sites or offices as needed to develop more effective working relationships
  • Resolve supplier, PO, and delivery issues in coordination with internal stakeholders to maintain construction progress and minimize downtime.
  • Support strategic sourcing initiatives, including RFx execution, cost analysis, supplier selection, and performance reviews.
  • Act as the primary liaison between internal project teams and suppliers, providing clear communication, order status updates, and delivery tracking.
  • Partner cross-functionally with project management, planning, engineering, and quality teams to align procurement and field delivery requirements with construction schedules and project milestones.
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Manage inventory levels in the material storage areas
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management, or related discipling or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
  • 1-3 years of procurement experience and/or experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of construction processes, equipment, and materials, purchasing processes, and procedures (preferred)
  • Experience working with ERP systems - COINS and/or KOJO (preferred)
  • Project Management experience (preferred)
  • Understanding of the construction industry (preferred)
  • Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal, and communication skills
  • Strong customer service and analytical skills
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Positive "can do" attitude
  • Willingness to change project work site locations, as projects reach completion

PAY RANGE: Very competitive salary (depending on experience) plus Incentive based on company performance, as well as a temporary housing allowance for non-local traveling employees.
