At E2, we value safety, innovation and collaboration, and we are dedicated to excellence.

This specialized dual-certified role combines expertise in both welding inspection and field-applied coating inspection to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance on pipeline construction and integrity projects.

The Dual Coating & Welding Inspector plays a critical role in verifying welder qualifications, welding procedures, weld quality, and coating application. This position requires strong technical knowledge of welding codes (API 1104, ASME B31.8) and coating standards, along with the ability to perform comprehensive field inspections across both disciplines.

Welding Inspection & Quality Assurance
  • Verify that welding procedures are properly qualified and utilized on the project.
  • Confirm that all welders are qualified for the work they are performing and that qualifications are current.
  • Monitor weld quality to ensure sound welds are produced at all joints in accordance with applicable codes and Company specifications.
  • Verify that repairs made to correct weld defects properly address the issue and meet code and specification requirements.
  • Ensure all welding materials are of the proper type and quality, stored correctly, and that damaged materials are not used.
  • Maintain detailed weld mapping, as-built documentation, and proper material traceability (MTRs).
Coating Inspection
  • Inspect field-applied coatings on pipe, fittings, valves, and joints to verify compliance with Company procedures and manufacturer instructions.
  • Perform coating inspections including holiday detection (jeeping), mil thickness verification, and hardness testing.
  • Witness all HDD pull-throughs to verify coating protection and examine the leading edge for coating damage.
  • Complete all required pre-backfill, pre-pull, and post-HDD coating verification checks.
General Pipeline Inspection & Documentation

  • NACE CIP Level 1 (or current AMPP equivalent).
  • Minimum of 3โ€“5 years of pipeline construction and/or inspection experience (combination of welding and coating experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, procedures, consumables, and weld preparation.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, alignment sheets, and valve maps.
  • Familiarity with DOT 192 and OSHA regulations.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards: API 1104, ASME B31.8, NACE, and SSPC.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate weld mapping and documentation.

Preferred

  • Experience on urban natural gas transmission pipeline projects.
  • Additional NDT certifications (e.g., MT or PT Level 1).
  • AMPP CIP Level 2 or higher.
  • Experience with horizontal directional drilling (HDD) coating inspection.

E2 Consulting Engineers, LP offers an excellent benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401(k) with employer match.
