Role Description The Welding Crew Chief is responsible for leading and coordinating a team of welders and fabricators on-site in Dallas, TX in a contract role. This position oversees day-to-day operations, including assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring work meets quality, safety, and compliance standards. The role involves reading and interpreting blueprints and welding symbols, planning work sequences, and verifying that materials and equipment are ready for each project. The Welding Crew Chief actively participates in welding and fabrication work, inspects completed welds, troubleshoots issues, and communicates with supervisors or clients about project status. This role also includes training and coaching crew members, enforcing safety protocols, maintaining tools and equipment, and completing basic documentation such as work logs, inspection reports, and incident records.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in welding or fabrication environments, including supervising crews and coordinating project workflows.
  • Strong technical welding skills (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick) and ability to interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and project specifications.
  • Proven commitment to safety, including knowledge of OSHA standards, proper PPE use, and safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Experience with structural and fabrication work, including fit-up, measuring, cutting, and quality inspection of completed welds and assemblies.
  • Effective communication skills for directing team members, reporting project progress, and collaborating with site management or clients.
  • Ability to work on-site in Dallas, TX, including occasional overtime or variable hours depending on project demands.
  • Relevant certifications, such as AWS or equivalent welding qualifications, and prior experience as a lead welder or foreperson are strongly preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform welding tasks, including standing for extended periods, lifting materials, and working in various environmental conditions.
