Job Summary
The College of Innovation and Technology is seeking a Support Technician to provide hands-on technology support for classrooms, conference rooms, labs, and faculty and staff workspaces. This position serves as a primary point of contact for audiovisual and desktop technology
Responsibilities*
  • Provide first-tier support for Crestron AV systems in classrooms, conference rooms, and event spaces, including control processors, touch panels, video switching, and audio components.
  • Support and maintain Zoom Rooms and other conferencing platforms, including cameras, microphones, speakers, controllers, and scheduling displays.
  • Diagnose and resolve AV issues reported by faculty, staff, and students, escalating complex system or programming issues to senior staff or vendors as appropriate.
  • Assist faculty with basic computer troubleshooting, including operating system issues, software installation and configuration, printing, network connectivity, and account or access problems.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and testing of classroom and conference room technology, particularly before the start of each semester and ahead of scheduled events.
  • Support physical space renovations and technology refresh projects by assisting with equipment removal and installation, cable pulls and terminations, mounting hardware, and coordination with facilities staff and outside contractors.
  • Image, configure, and deploy desktop and laptop computers using standard imaging and deployment tools; maintain and update standard images as needed.
  • Install, relocate, and decommission computers, monitors, docking stations, printers, and peripherals; maintain accurate asset and inventory records.
  • Provide basic support for computer equipment, including hardware diagnostics, component replacement, warranty repair coordination, and equipment disposal in accordance with institutional policy.
  • Create and maintain user-facing documentation and quick reference guides for classroom and conference room technology.
  • Provide occasional event support as needed.

Required Qualifications*
  • Working knowledge of Windows and macOS operating systems and common productivity and conferencing software.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot basic audiovisual issues involving displays, projectors, audio systems, and signal routing.
  • Experience using video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or equivalent.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and patiently to non-technical users, including faculty in live classroom situations.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple requests and projects with competing priorities.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, work from ladders and lifts, and perform work in confined spaces such as equipment racks, ceilings, and closets.

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
