Job description

The Funeral Courier Assistant plays an integral role in ensuring the efficiency of our funeral administrative processes. In this position, you will manage and secure essential documentation and ensure the timely delivery of intracompany items to their designated locations. Building and maintaining professional relationships with doctors, crematories, and other stakeholders is essential for success in this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Secure and ensure proper completion of death certificates, transit/cremation/disinterment permits.
  • Initiate contact with the doctor to request or coordinate the signing of the death certificate, including locating the doctor if they are not in EDEN/UMAP or have multiple locations.
  • Coordinate with the funeral director on time constraints that exist with the death certificate.
  • Notify the funeral director of the medical certification status of the death certificate to include completion or delays.
  • If the death certificate is not signed by the doctor after 24 hours the Funeral Courier Assistant will follow up and make contact with the doctor by the preferred method listed in EDEN.
  • Pick up death certificates at least once a day and deliver them to the relevant locations on the same day.
  • Pick up Ashes at the crematory daily and deliver them to designated locations.
  • Assist with Concierge deliveries of ashes or signature dedications.
  • Delivery intracompany mail between locations daily.
  • Mail packaged ashes (funeral director will package).
  • Provide tracking information to the funeral director for all mailed items.
  • Package and send UPS Shipments.
  • Secure and deliver sundry items to various locations.
  • Transport deceased individuals to the crematory.
  • Assist the funeral staff with viewings/services/memorials/graveside/celebrations/catered events.
  • Perform removals during day-time hours.
  • Assist with restocking of supplies, stationary, snacks in arrangement offices.
  • Perform light cleaning and restocking of bathrooms.
  • Assist with vehicle maintenance as needed.

  • Develop and foster relationships with doctors, the health department, crematory, and other stakeholders.

MINIMUM Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Certification/License

  • Valid state driver's license in good standing

Experience

  • At least one (1) year work experience as a courier or driver.
  • Direct customer interaction strongly preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to travel locally and to multiple locations as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds; push/pull up to 200 pounds
  • Ability to drive in hazardous, heavy traffic, and weather conditions
  • Communicate professionally, clearly, and effectively
  • High level of compassion and integrity
  • Basic computer skills required

Work CONDITIONS

Work Environment
  • Work indoors and or outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions
  • Significant local and/or multiple location traveling required
  • Comply with Field dress code policy
Work Postures
  • Frequent, continuous periods of time standing, up 2 hours per day
  • Sitting continuously for many hours per day, up to 2 hours per day
  • Climbing stairs to access buildings frequently
Physical Demands
  • Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required, includes paperwork, calculators, computers and phone usage
