Job description

As a Senior Associate Credit Officer within Corporate Risk Management, you will manage credit risk for the Merchant Services Wholesale Credit portfolio through ongoing credit monitoring, analyzing financial statements, determining appropriate risk ratings, and exerting credit approval authority, as applicable for the role. Recognize possible risks a client's business may pose to the firm while providing recommendations to mitigate such risks. Maintain consistency and quality of credit reviews through high quality assessments and escalate any identified risks and trends. Complete all assigned credit reviews and ad-hoc reviews / tasks within timelines. Participate in ongoing projects / process improvement efforts as appropriate. You will be part of a highly collaborative team that prioritizes learning, professional development, inclusivity, and mentorship. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Evaluate and approve existing merchant relationships including: financial statement review, cash-flow analysis, transaction trend analysis, assessment of the business model, product/service risk evaluation, customer concentration assessment, and review of refund and chargeback exposure.
  • Identify and escalate problem credits promptly, and negotiate effectively to protect the bank's interests.
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in financial analysis, products, and key risk factors; defend credit ratings confidently.
  • Apply strong financial analysis and product knowledge, incorporating relevant macro- and microeconomic factors and risks.
  • Deliver well-supported credit decisions through effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Meet monthly timelines and take ownership of deliverables by proactively following up with stakeholders to complete reviews and requests.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including Relationship Managers and Legal.
  • Monitor industry trends and credit risk management best practices to strengthen decision-making and maintain a competitive edge.
     

Requiredqualifications, capabilities, and skills: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in credit risk underwriting, commercial lending, payments risk or portfolio management.
  • Strong financial analysis skills and the ability to write clear, well-structured credit memos.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a collaborative, high-volume environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain decisions using data and sound rationale, and to escalate appropriately when needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, plan, and manage processes to complete credit analysis and related assignments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to quickly adapt to proprietary systems. 

  • Sound judgment under time pressure; ability to balance risk vs. commercial objectives
