In this career, your responsibilities include running credit checks on each customer, client, or vendor to assess the risk involved in a loan, credit, or other financial agreement. You establish metrics for evaluating risk, and you maintain documentation for each of the accounts under your management. You also set limits on the amount of credit. If a customer builds too much debt, the credit and collections manager initiates collections proceedings. You also ensure quality customer service and approve reimbursement when necessary.

Familiarity with collections software (such as SAP, Oracle, or FICO), CRM systems, and certification from organizations like the ACA International is often required. Strong negotiation, leadership, and communication skills are crucial for managing teams and resolving sensitive debtor situations. These skills ensure effective debt recovery, maintain positive client relationships, and minimize financial risk for the organization.

What are some typical challenges credit collections managers face when balancing customer relationships with collection targets?

Credit Collections Managers often navigate the delicate balance between achieving collection targets and maintaining positive customer relationships. Common challenges include handling sensitive conversations with clients experiencing financial hardship, negotiating payment arrangements that align with company policies, and ensuring timely collections without damaging long-term business rapport. Successful managers employ empathy, strong communication skills, and strategic negotiation to resolve issues while protecting the company's financial interests. Collaboration with sales, customer service, and finance teams is also essential to develop solutions that work for both the business and its clients.

Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.
Key to the effort in building a global Internet TV network is the ability to grow and evolve our revenue-generating initiatives across the globe. We continue to introduce new commerce models, pricing strategies, and other opportunities to grow the business and now you have the chance to join the growing team of finance experts who support them. Our Revenue Accounting and Operations team is currently looking for a Senior Credit and Collections Manager to develop and refine a sophisticated and best-in-class credit and collections management environment to ensure smooth, efficient, and risk-balanced business operations. This position will look to solve complex issues across our B2B Revenue verticals such as Advertising, Partnerships, and Consumer Products and partner with multiple cross-functional teams to establish and scale our credit, collections, dispute management, and related policies and workflows. This role will be based in the United States but will work cross-functionally across many time zones with our US and other international offices.
The perfect candidate will be hands-on and very detail-oriented, have excellent communication skills, be capable of multitasking, and take the initiative to implement efficient and scalable policies and procedures.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL
  • Partner with Revenue Accounting, Business Operations, Sales, and other business leads to design, implement, and refine credit and collections policies for multiple revenue and payment streams, including ads, partnerships, payment processors, and consumer products.
  • Implement tools and solutions (1st and/or 3rd party) to enable a highly automated, scaled, and risk-balanced credit and risk management process.
  • Manage the processing of customer credit, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Lead the global AR and Collections team and related workflows to ensure an efficient and cohesive operational model that allows us to meet and exceed critical KPIs.
  • Lead the Dispute Management function and drive SLA performance and efficient processes to ensure disputed invoices are cleared for collection.
  • Oversee the maintenance of accurate customer credit records, using ERP systems such as Workday and other systems.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams during the negotiation phase of large deals with a focus on minimizing DSO.
  • Develop, design, and lead the process for customer inquiries and customer monitoring related to credit and collections, providing prompt and effective solutions.
  • Develop and refine all credit and collections metrics and strategies to ensure best in class performance.
  • Perform detailed tracking and analysis of credit and cash collections and collaborate with internal accounting teams to ensure proper treatment under US GAAP.
  • Support monthly accounting close activities as needed with a focus on presenting KPI and SLA performance and strategic efforts to improve such metrics.
  • Independently identify process gaps and drive projects to simplify and automate manual workflows.

QUALITIES WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of transactions, tight deadlines, and multiple focus areas concurrently.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise in Credit and Collections Management policies and operations.
  • A passion for building from the ground up with a vision towards a best-in-class future and scale.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information.
  • A great communicator who can cultivate strong cross-functional relationships and simply communicate and present effectively to internal teams and external partners.
  • Intellectually curious and passionate; our team members ask probing questions, challenge the status quo, make changes to improve processes, and have fun while doing it all.
  • Organized, detail oriented, and a speedy learner; you can be successful on our team if you're excited about learning, focused on becoming an expert in the areas you support, and have the drive to succeed.
  • Exemplifies the Netflix Culture and aspires to always drive toward a best-in-class Credit, Collections, and Dispute Management ecosystem.
  • Tech-forward with a vision for how to best utilize AI across areas of coverage.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and successfully execute the required tasks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 10+ years of relevant experience - credit and collections management experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance-related field.
  • Proven project management experience and demonstrated ability to develop multiple processes from the ground up concurrently and iteratively improve the processes to enable scale and efficiency.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience developing and mentoring others.
  • Experience leading a geographically dispersed team that covers global credit and collections operations.
  • Advanced ability to navigate large data sets and the ability to turn data into actionable narratives for change.
  • Experience with cloud based ERP systems. Workday Financials a plus!
  • Experience with other Credit and Collections related 3rd party systems and ticketing tools is a plus.
