How much do creative translation jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 20, 2026, the average hourly pay for creative translation in the United States is $29.25, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $25.96 and $30.53 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How does a Creative Translator balance fidelity to the original text with adapting content for a target audience?

Creative Translators often face the challenge of preserving the original message's intent and tone while ensuring it resonates culturally and linguistically with the target audience. This requires close collaboration with copywriters, marketing teams, and subject matter experts to adapt idioms, humor, and brand voice appropriately. On a daily basis, Creative Translators review source materials, participate in brainstorms, and provide feedback to ensure translated content feels natural and effective in its new context. Successfully balancing these aspects is key to delivering translations that are both accurate and engaging.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Creative Translator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Translator, you need advanced proficiency in at least two languages, a strong grasp of cultural nuances, and typically a degree in translation, linguistics, or a related field. Familiarity with translation memory tools, CAT software, and localization platforms is often required. Exceptional creativity, attention to detail, and adaptability set outstanding creative translators apart. These skills ensure that translated content captures the intended style, tone, and emotional impact for diverse audiences.

What is creative translation?

Creative translation is the process of adapting content from one language to another while preserving its original intent, style, tone, and cultural nuances. Unlike literal translation, it allows for flexibility and creativity to ensure the message resonates with the target audience. It is commonly used in marketing, advertising, literary works, and branding materials where a direct translation would not be effective or engaging.

What is the difference between Creative Translation vs Localization Specialist?

AspectCreative TranslationLocalization Specialist
Required CredentialsLanguage proficiency, translation certificationsLanguage skills, cultural knowledge, localization tools
Work EnvironmentTranslation agencies, freelance, corporateMultinational companies, agencies, tech firms
Industry UsagePublishing, marketing, mediaSoftware, gaming, e-commerce

Creative Translation focuses on adapting content with an emphasis on artistic and linguistic creativity, ensuring the message resonates culturally. Localization Specialists adapt products or content to specific markets, considering cultural nuances, technical requirements, and user experience. While both roles require language skills and cultural awareness, Creative Translation emphasizes linguistic artistry, whereas Localization involves technical adaptation for target markets.

Colgate-Palmolive Company is a global consumer products company operating in over 200 countries specializing in Oral Care, Personal Care, Home Care, Skin Care, and Pet Nutrition. Our products are trusted in more households than any other brand in the world, making us a household name!
Join Colgate-Palmolive, a caring, innovative growth company reimagining a healthier future for people, their pets, and our planet. Guided by our core values—Caring, Inclusive, and Courageous—we foster a culture that inspires our people to achieve common goals. Together, let's build a brighter, healthier future for all.

The Creative Lead, CP Skin Health US is a versatile, dynamic, and highly resourceful creative powerhouse responsible for shaping and protecting the visual and textual expression of both EltaMD and PCA SKIN in the US market. Reporting directly to the VP of Marketing CPSH US, this critical role streamlines traditional creative agency and production capabilities into a single, agile leadership function.

As a hybrid talent, you possess the multi-disciplinary sensibilities to oversee and execute art direction, creative production, and copywriting as needed. You will serve as the central creative engine for the organization—supporting the core Brand Management, Omni-Channel Demand Generation (ODG), and Digital Customer Experience/CRM teams, while seamlessly scaling to support cross-functional team needs in Professional Retail Marketing and Digital Commerce. Partnering closely with the Global Senior Brand Design Manager, you will translate global brand visions into high-impact, compliant, and culturally resonant US assets, balancing direct creation with strategic agency management, freelance orchestration, and cutting-edge enterprise AI tools.

Responsibilities:

US Creative Execution & Vision

  • Global-to-Local Translation: Partner closely with the Global Senior Brand Design Manager to adapt, localized, and upscale global brand visions into the US market while fiercely maintaining the creative integrity and visual identity guidelines of EltaMD and PCA SKIN.

  • Hands On Cross-Disciplinary Creator-Creative expert in design, structural copywriting, and creative production management for US market needs.

  • Elevated Aesthetic Standards: Bring a deep, intuitive sensibility for prestige beauty, clinical skincare, or medical aesthetics, ensuring all visual assets and messaging strike the perfect balance between clinical efficacy and premium consumer desire.

Multi-Functional Cross-Team Support

  • For Brand & Pro Advocacy: Develop premium visual assets, medical congress materials, advisory board presentations, and packaging/collateral adaptations that reflect the brands' professional clinical backing.

  • For ODG & the 1+N+X Engine: Collaborate with the Brand Experience Managers to support the design of agile, high-volume social assets (specifically for TikTok and Instagram) and digital ad creative, feeding optimization loops with rapid creative iterations based on performance insights.

  • For CRM & Digital Customer Experience: Deliver clean, high-converting visual and copy layouts for automated lifecycle email journeys, SMS campaigns, and loyalty program assets.

  • For Cross Functional Partners (Professional Affairs, Pro Retail Marketing & Digital Commerce): Partner with commercial teams outside of marketing to develop professional marketing materials for internal / external needs and thumb-stopping digital shelf assets, e-tailer banners.

  • Support for Internal & External Events

Creative Resource Coordination & Technology Integration

  • Freelance & Agency Management: Serve as the master coordinator and primary liaison for external creative agencies and an active roster of freelance designers, copywriters, and video editors. Curate and scale this network to handle project overflow and specialized production demands (supported by monday.com project management tool)

  • AI Tool Integration: Champion the ethical and efficient use of enterprise AI creative suites (e.g., Canva, Google Suite of AI tools etc) to compress production timelines and multiply direct creative output.

  • Budget Tracking: Track and manage the localized creative production budget, optimizing spend between internal tool licenses, freelance labor, and agency retention.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Communications, Creative Writing, or a related creative discipline
  • Experience: 6+ years of experience in a creative agency or internal corporate creative department, with a distinct emphasis on beauty, premium skincare, cosmetics, or wellness/lifestyle categories
  • Hybrid Portfolio: A diverse, high-caliber portfolio demonstrating professional mastery in visual design/art direction, clean commercial copywriting, and a strong understanding of modern video/photo production mechanics
  • Cross-Functional Fluency: Proven experience supporting highly distinct teams simultaneously (e.g., matching the data-driven demands of a CRM/Performance Media team while satisfying strict medical/brand guidelines)
  • Technical Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere/AfterEffects) and modern presentation software (Keynote/PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Dual-Audience Adaptability: Experience designing creative assets that cater simultaneously to healthcare professionals (B2B/Dermatologists) and beauty-conscious consumers (B2C)

  • AI-Assisted Workflow Expertise: Direct experience integrating generative AI tools into a standard creative workflow to increase asset velocity and scale production

  • Agile Project Management: Background in setting up creative request pipelines or utilizing project management tools (e.g., Asana, Monday.com, Workfront) to triage and self-schedule multi-brand creative requests
