MATTE PROJECTS

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Posted 6 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Support the evaluation, implementation, and rollout of AI-enabled tools and workflows across creative, production, and operational teams.

  • Own the ongoing management, maintenance, and evolution of MATTE's website and lead client-facing digital build projects from brief through launch.

  • Develop and maintain scalable creative systems, templates, and workflows across MATTE's digital ecosystem.

Job description

Who are we?

MATTE is a 360 full-service creative studio at the convergence of hype, storytelling and design. We bring people together to inspire new ways of engaging, to provoke long term progress, and to entertain audiences around the world, while helping forward-thinking brands and institutions nimbly and truly do the same. Our studio capabilities range from strategic ideation and insights, creative development, branding and identity, experiential, web design and development, campaigns and content creation, all the way through full-scale production and execution.

About this role:

MATTE is seeking a Creative Technologist to sit at the intersection of creativity, technology, and production - someone who can build, prototype, and operationalize new ways of working while owning the digital experiences that represent MATTE and our clients. This is a hands-on, forward-looking role for a builder who is as fluent in creative craft as they are in the tools and technologies reshaping how creative work gets made.

At the center of this role is the implementation of AI across the studio. You will center the evaluation and rollout of AI-enabled workflows - identifying where emerging tools can accelerate and elevate our output, then building the systems, prompts, and processes that make them a practical, dependable part of how the team works every day. Just as importantly, you will push MATTE's creative and technical ambitions forward, prototyping new ideas and translating experimentation into shipped, real-world work.

Alongside this, you will own MATTE's website and oversee our client-facing digital build projects - from concept and design through development and launch - ensuring everything meets MATTE's standard for craft and performs flawlessly across platforms.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in Figma and in code, energized by new technology, and rigorous about turning experimentation into scalable practice. They are curious, resourceful, and excited to help define what creative technology looks like inside a studio still writing its own playbook.

Responsibilities

AI & Workflow Innovation

  • Support the evaluation, implementation, and rollout of AI-enabled tools and workflows across creative, production, and operational teams.
  • Identify high-impact opportunities where AI can accelerate ideation, asset creation, iteration, and delivery - and build the processes to capture them.
  • Develop and maintain prompts, templates, custom agents, and integrations that make AI a practical part of everyday creative work.
  • Train and support teams in adopting new tools, establishing best practices, guardrails, and quality standards for AI-assisted output.
  • Stay ahead of a rapidly evolving AI and creative-technology landscape, continuously testing what's new and advising leadership on what's worth adopting.

Innovation & Prototyping

  • Partner with creative and strategy leadership to push MATTE's work into new technical and experiential territory.
  • Rapidly prototype concepts - interactive, generative, web-based, or experiential - to bring ideas to life and pressure-test feasibility.
  • Explore emerging platforms, formats, and technologies and translate them into pitch-ready and client-ready ideas.
  • Act as a technical creative partner across new business and client projects, helping shape what's possible.

Website & Client-Facing Digital Builds

  • Own the ongoing management, maintenance, and evolution of MATTE's website, including new work, case studies, capabilities, leadership information, and other editorial content.
  • Lead client-facing digital build projects from brief through launch - sites, landing pages, microsites, digital toolkits, and interactive experiences.
  • Design and produce polished, functional digital experiences, translating creative direction into shipped work.
  • Build in Figma and work alongside (or directly with) developers to bring designs to life, working hands-on in code where needed.
  • Manage QA across desktop and mobile, ensuring builds are accurate, responsive, performant, and visually consistent.
  • Monitor performance and identify opportunities to improve usability, navigation, accessibility, and engagement.

Systems, Tools & Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain scalable creative systems, templates, and workflows across MATTE's digital ecosystem.
  • Maintain Figma libraries, digital guidelines, templates, and reusable components.
  • Build an organized archive of website assets, case-study materials, project information, and digital brand resources.
  • Manage relationships with freelance developers, designers, and technical partners when additional support is required.
  • Improve how creative assets, tools, and project information move between teams.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of experience in creative technology, digital design and development, interactive production, or a comparable hybrid role.
  • A strong portfolio spanning digital design, website or interactive work, and evidence of technical experimentation or innovation.
  • Hands-on experience implementing AI tools in a creative or production context (e.g., generative image/video, LLM-based workflows, custom agents, or automation).
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Working knowledge of front-end development and no-code/low-code platforms - HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Webflow, Framer, or similar.
  • Experience with content-management systems and managing website content.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, user experience, digital production, and web-development workflows.
  • Ability to translate fluidly between creative vision and technical execution, and to collaborate effectively with both designers and developers.
  • A builder's mindset: resourceful, experimental, and able to turn ambiguity into working solutions.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable creating structure where processes may still be developing.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working within a creative agency, design studio, production company, or similarly fast-paced environment is preferred.
  • Bonus: motion design, creative coding (p5.js, Three.js, WebGL), real-time or generative tools (TouchDesigner, Unreal), APIs, analytics, or SEO.

Compensation: $110,000-130,000 /year based on relevant experience

Benefits include:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • 401k with a 4% company contribution match
  • Fully covered yearly Citibike membership
  • Commuter benefits
  • Talkspace membership
  • Competitive PTO package
  • End of Year Recharge
  • Sabbatical Program
