Summary:

The Senior Manager, Creative manages the creative strategy and execution for one or more brands and/or product groupings within a brand, from project initiation through asset delivery. In this role, you will lead the creative development and execution of the brand's guidelines and all related marketing materials, the visual assets management and the quality control, as well as the project coordination. The Senior Manager, Creative manages a team of designers, production specialists and project managers, and is responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining creative design talents, internal and/or external resources. The Senior Manager, Creative partners with marketing and industrial design teams and domain peers to build a creative center of excellence within Newell Brands.

Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with brand and channel teams to understand the brand strategy, marketing projects, and campaigns. Sets the overall tone and strategy of all projects and ensures delivery to standards of the Director, Creative.
  • Supports the Director, Creative in developing an effective brand visual identity, and stewarding it across all consumer touch-points. Guides the Creative and Copy teams to translate the brand visual identity guidelines into concrete creative solutions.
  • Leads the development of the brand style guide including logo, product branding (online/offline), typography, packaging, photography, illustration, multimedia, video, and activation materials.
  • Leads brainstorming sessions to generate creative ideas and fosters an environment conducive to best-in-class creative development. Collaborates with Senior Manager, Creative design peers to share best practices, fully-leverage resources, and foster inspiration. Continually learns to develops training sessions on AI tools and leads team to continuously develop skills to leverage these tools effectively.
  • Presents creative directions with rationale and expert recommendations to marketing teams. Ensures the quality of all creative recommendations presented and assets delivered to consumers.
  • Leads the Manager, Creative, and other departmental positions to produce highly effective creative executions leveraging AI and digital twins for faster production and advanced effects, including: brand identity, packaging, point-of-purchase, promotions, print/web advertising, web design, e-commerce, email marketing, social media content, direct mail, collateral, video, and events.
  • Collaborates in developing stakeholder briefs and maintains solid relationships with all cross-functional partners. Evaluates the content of creative briefs as needed, based on complexity and strategic level of project or campaign. Shares Creative brief content with the Manager, Creative and Messaging brief content with the Manager, Copy and recommends translation of the strategy and needs assessment information into visual execution plans.
  • Partners with Manager, Design Operations to maintain project timing, project accuracy, and develop resource deployment that can deliver necessary content to ensure segment strategic objectives are met and achieve annual financial objectives.
  • Partners with the Director, Creative in RFP and agency selection and partnership agreement development.
  • Utilizes and automates designs with AI tools - Text to image, image to image, and image to 3D software, and scripted automations.
  • Implements AI-driven initiatives and helps identify and drive experimentation in new areas where AI can enhance design processes.
  • Oversees creative direction of designers, agency partners, photographers, and other artists to deliver best-in-class digital and physical assets. Oversees direction of photo and video shoots (direction, storyboards) leveraging AI and digital twins for faster production and advanced effects - with support from Manager, Creative.
  • Ensure proper use of messaging framework and call-to-action strategy for Omnichannel and eCommerce marketing vehicles (emails, banner ads, SEM copy, landing pages, brand pages, etc.). With Manager, Creative, manages the content development workflow for DTC traffic drivers (i.e. email, paid social, etc), including working with developers to build, proof and deploy marketing assets.
  • Engage with cross-functional subject matter experts to incorporate best practices into the digital shelf. Implement content governance workflows globally across the enterprise.
  • Uses appropriate decision-making and approval processes in a timely manner.
  • Participates in and helps organize recruiting events.

Qualifications:

  • University degree or college diploma in graphic design, art or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 10-15+ years of experience in a creative/graphic design position, including 3-5+ years experience managing creative teams, and 3+ years of experience leading the development and execution of multi-channel content (e.g. development of copy, photography, video, rich media, campaigns, digital shelf: landing pages, product listing, product detail, banners, pages on retailer websites including but not limited to Amazon.com, Target.com, and Walmart.com etc.
  • Respected and trusted leader with a proven track record of achievement, and proven experience managing a team at varying levels of work.
  • Expert knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects
  • Experience with driving asset production from 3D modeling tools: Adobe Substance suite, Keyshot, etc.
  • Able to develop and implement novel design workflows utilizing Generative AI tools: e.g. Firefly, ChatGPT, Midjourney, etc.
  • Best practices knowledge of brand and asset stewardship via creative asset management tools such as: Adobe Libraries, Adobe Express, and Adobe Experience Manager
  • Strong decision-making skills and an understanding of where projects fit into overall Company and development strategies.

Creative Leadership: 

Experience leading the creative development and related executions for a brand. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to: 

  • Demonstrate passion for a brand and infuse other people with that passion.
  • Achieve bold outcomes with clear vision, direction, planning and management.
  • Drive consensus, foster creative collaboration.
  • Lead and develop meetings and brainstorming sessions.
  • Work directly with both internal and external partners in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Art Direction: 

Ability to direct creative projects on a broad scale. Deep in a detailed understanding of all design components required, including:

  • Implementation of the best design tools and practices to reflect required brand targets. Current on market context, design trends, technology and art.
  • Demonstrates mastery in design architecture deployment.
  • Deep expertise in experience design development, photography, illustration, production. Practitioner and thought leadership around design techniques, trends and multi-channel innovation.
  • Mastery in programs for advanced design development and program applications/efficiencies. Utilize multiple programs and digital tools for rigorous design exploration and concept development. Video editing/motion graphics experience a plus
  • Commercial photo studio experience a plus
  • Understanding of best practices to leverage UX/UI. Able to direct, commission, and organize UI/UX research where applicable leveraging vendors and internal expert teams.
  • Highly detail oriented. Excellent business acumen.
  • Strong time management skills. Demonstrates a high degree of flexibility within tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and visual communication skills. Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Pragmatic with excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Coding (HTML/CSS) knowledge and understanding of best practices in mobile-first and responsive web development
  • Ability to travel as needed
