What is creative project management?

Creative project management is the process of planning, coordinating, and delivering projects within creative industries such as advertising, design, marketing, and media production. It involves balancing artistic vision with practical constraints like budgets, timelines, and client expectations. Creative project managers work closely with diverse teams, including designers, writers, and clients, to ensure projects meet objectives and are completed efficiently. Their role requires strong communication, organizational skills, and an understanding of both the creative process and project management methodologies.

How does a creative project manager typically collaborate with designers, copywriters, and stakeholders throughout a project?

A Creative Project Manager serves as the central point of coordination between creative teams—such as designers and copywriters—and project stakeholders. They facilitate regular check-ins, clarify project objectives, manage timelines, and ensure all parties are aligned on deliverables. Collaboration often involves leading kickoff meetings, maintaining open communication channels, providing constructive feedback, and resolving any bottlenecks swiftly. By fostering a collaborative environment and balancing creative vision with client expectations, they help ensure projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Project Manager, you need strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of creative processes, and experience with project management methodologies, often supported by a relevant degree or certification (such as PMP or Agile). Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Trello, or Monday.com, and creative software such as Adobe Creative Suite, is typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help in managing cross-functional teams and client expectations. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope while maintaining high creative standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the post-production workflow for multiple videos, including rough cuts, revisions, story edits, and final uploads

  • Coordinate with freelance editors, organize creative assets, and communicate deadlines and feedback

  • Assist with editing videos, create graphics, and review edits to ensure pacing, storytelling, and entertainment quality

Job description

Mary Allyson, a YouTube creator with over 2.4M subscribers is hiring a full-time Creative Manager to work directly with her and her Creative Director.

This role sits at the intersection of creative project management and hands-on editing. You'll help manage our videos through the production and post-production process by keeping freelance editors, footage, assets, graphics, music, sound, feedback, and deadlines organized while making sure each project continues moving forward.

You need to be an editor yourself. You should understand editing, pacing, storytelling, and the technical side of post-production well enough to jump into a project, make changes yourself, edit Short-Form content from start to finish, and effectively communicate with other editors.

You'll work closely with our Creative Director to learn our creative vision and how we make decisions around story, pacing, humor, music, graphics, and overall execution.

If you love YouTube, are extremely organized, have strong editing instincts, and genuinely enjoy bringing someone else's creative vision to life at a high level, we'd love to meet you!

Project Management & Post-Production
  • Own and manage the post-production workflow for multiple videos at once
  • Keep every video moving through rough cuts, revisions, story edits, polish, and final upload
  • Coordinate with freelance editors and make sure they have everything they need to execute
  • Communicate deadlines, feedback, priorities, and creative direction to other editors
  • Track revisions and ensure feedback is properly implemented
  • Make sure footage, project files, graphics, music, sound effects, and other creative assets are organized and where they need to be
  • Keep the Creative Director informed on project status and surface anything that needs creative input or approval
  • Help maintain organized project files, storage, backups, and asset libraries
Editing & Creative Execution
  • Assist with editing long-form YouTube videos when needed
  • Create graphics and visual assets in Photoshop
  • Jump directly into edits when needed to make revisions, tighten pacing, restructure sections, or solve creative problems
  • Edit YouTube Shorts, TikToks, and Instagram Reels from start to finish
  • Learn our editing style and standards so you can effectively manage other editors
  • Help source and organize music, sound effects, graphics, and other creative assets
  • Review edits with a strong eye for pacing, storytelling, clarity, and entertainment value
  • Help brainstorm video ideas, thumbnails, hooks, and story improvements
What We're Looking For

You should have:

  • Strong video editing skills and a great sense of pacing and storytelling
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro and/or Premiere Pro
  • Strong project-management skills and the ability to manage multiple videos simultaneously
  • Experience with Photoshop
  • Comfort receiving direct creative feedback and improving quickly
  • A genuine love of YouTube and a desire to understand what makes great videos work

What We Offer

  • A real role on a small, growing team. You’ll be part of the day-to-day rhythm that keeps everything running and helps big creative ideas actually happen.
  • Work that feels good to be part of. Your organization and execution will help create family-friendly content that aims to make the internet a more positive place, especially for young girls and their families.
  • Room to grow with us. As the channel and team continue to grow, this role can evolve in responsibility, trust, and influence.
  • A collaborative, supportive environment. We value teamwork, clear communication, and showing up for each other and we want this role to feel like you’re building something with us, not just working for us.
