Job Summary

The Marketing & Communications Manager owns the day-to-day communications engine for Hanna Center and its partner organization, Hanna Academy. This role is responsible for crafting and distributing compelling content across email, website, social media, print, and earned media โ€” ensuring consistent, mission-aligned messaging across every audience Hanna serves, from donors and families to community partners and prospective students.

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, Marketing & Events, this person will manage the organization's email marketing program, maintain and update both the Hanna Center and Hanna Academy websites, oversee social media presence across all platforms, support public relations efforts, and produce print and digital collateral. This role works closely with the development team to craft donor-facing communications and appeals, and partners with the Events & Community Engagement Manager to provide marketing support for signature events as needed โ€” without owning event logistics or execution.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer and storyteller who is comfortable managing multiple communications channels simultaneously, can translate organizational priorities into compelling content for diverse audiences, and brings a self-starting, detail-oriented approach to a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Essential Functions

Email Marketing

  • Manage the organizationโ€™s email marketing program for both Hanna Center and Hanna Academy, including newsletters, donor communications, and campaign sends
  • Use the organization's email marketing platform to build, schedule, and distribute email campaigns and newsletters
  • Maintain and segment email lists, ensuring accurate targeting and audience-appropriate messaging
  • Track and report on open rates, click-through rates, and engagement metrics to optimize content and distribution strategy

Website Management

  • Maintain and update the Hanna Center and Hanna Academy websites, ensuring accuracy, brand consistency, and up-to-date information
  • Coordinate with the website design vendor on larger updates, redesigns, or technical needs
  • Update internal portals and board portals with relevant news and organizational updates
  • Monitor website performance and engagement analytics, using data to inform content and structure improvements

Social Media

  • Manage Hanna Center and Hanna Academy's social media presence across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and other relevant platforms
  • Develop and execute a social media content strategy that drives engagement and reflects organizational priorities and brand voice
  • Oversee social media contractors or freelancers, ensuring content aligns with brand guidelines and messaging needs
  • Monitor, report, and present on social media engagement analytics, adjusting strategy based on performance

Public Relations & Earned Media

  • Serve as the day-to-day liaison with Hanna's PR firm, coordinating press opportunities, interview requests, and media research projects
  • Draft and coordinate press releases and media materials in partnership with the PR firm and leadership
  • Track earned media coverage and report on PR outcomes and visibility
  • Support crisis communications needs as they arise, in coordination with leadership and the PR firm

Print & Digital Collateral

  • Create and manage print and digital collateral, including brochures, flyers, signage, and donor-facing materials
  • Coordinate with design vendors and contractors on larger creative projects, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines
  • Manage smaller graphic design needs directly using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
  • Oversee production of organizational collateral, including the annual report, working closely with leadership and development on content and storytelling

Donor & Development Communications

  • Partner with the development team to draft and produce donor-facing communications, including appeals, stewardship materials, and event invitations
  • Support the writing and design of fundraising appeals in collaboration with development leadership
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all donor and development touchpoints

Cross-Functional Event Support

  • Provide marketing and communications support for Hanna's signature events as needed, including email promotion, social media coverage, signage, and event collateral
  • Partner with the Events & Community Engagement Manager to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all event communications
  • Capture photos and content at programs, events, and donor check presentations for use across marketing channels
  • This supports events through marketing and communications only and does not own event logistics, vendor management, or day-of execution
Core Competencies
  • Strong writing, storytelling, and content development across multiple channels and audiences
  • Email marketing strategy and execution
  • Website management and basic content management system fluency
  • Social media strategy and platform management
  • Public relations coordination and media relations support
  • Graphic design and print/digital collateral production
  • Cross-functional collaboration, particularly with development and events
  • Data-Driven decision making using engagement and performance analytics
  • Commitment to Hanna Center's mission, values, and community impact
Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based at Hanna Center's Sonoma campus, with occasional on-site support for events and community programs. Some evening and weekend work may be required to support events, campaigns, or organizational needs. Some local travel required.
