What is a creative consultant?

A creative consultant is brought in to help improve a screenplay, advertising campaign, or other arts or sales projects. A creative consultant balances the commercial viability of a project against the goals of the writer or creative elements of the project. Job duties include proofreading, editing, and improving copy, while ensuring that the original voice remains. They must be comfortable taking other people’s work and improving it without reducing or eliminating the central message.

How do creative consultants typically collaborate with internal teams and clients throughout a project?

Creative Consultants often serve as a bridge between clients and internal teams, such as designers, writers, and marketers. They participate in brainstorming sessions, contribute to project planning, and ensure that creative concepts align with the client's vision and objectives. Regular communication, feedback loops, and presentations are common, helping to refine ideas and maintain project momentum. This collaborative approach allows Creative Consultants to provide strategic direction while ensuring all stakeholders are aligned.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Consultant, you need a strong background in design principles, brand strategy, and creative problem-solving, often supported by a degree in design, marketing, or a related field. Proficiency with creative tools like Adobe Creative Suite, project management software, and experience with digital marketing platforms are typically required. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and collaboration skills help you effectively convey ideas and work with diverse clients and teams. These skills ensure innovative solutions that meet client needs and drive successful creative outcomes.

Position: Digital Marketing Consultant
Department: Media Solutions
Reporting To: Director of Digital Marketing
Location: Topeka, KS - Onsite
Overview:
Advisors Excel is seeking an experienced and client-focused Digital Marketing Consultant to join our growing Digital Team. This role is responsible for managing paid media campaigns for financial advisor offices from strategy through execution, optimization, and performance reporting.
The Digital Marketing Consultant owns a larger, more complex book of business and serves as a trusted digital marketing resource to financial advisors and their teams. This individual will interpret campaign performance, identify strategic opportunities for improvement, and proactively recommend changes to improve lead quality, conversion rates, appointment volume, and return on ad spend. If you thrive in a fast-paced, data-driven environment where strategy and execution come together, this role is for you.
What you'll do:
  • Build, launch, manage, and optimize paid digital advertising campaigns for financial advisor offices across Meta Ads Manager and Google Ads
  • Own the full lifecycle of assigned campaigns, including setup, audience targeting, creative testing, budget management, optimization, and reporting
  • Independently manage a larger book of business (approximately 12-15 campaigns) while maintaining strong performance, organization, and communication
  • Analyze campaign performance data and proactively identify opportunities to improve lead quality, cost efficiency, conversion rates, and return on ad spend
  • Translate performance data into clear, actionable insights-explaining what worked, what changed, what needs improvement, and what should happen next
  • Serve as a trusted marketing partner to financial advisors and their teams, providing guidance on paid media strategy and broader digital marketing performance
  • Collaborate with internal creative, account management, sales, and operations teams to align campaigns with advisor goals and business priorities
  • Evaluate landing page and funnel performance and provide recommendations for conversion rate optimization, messaging improvements, and lead flow enhancements
  • Coach clients at a high level on digital marketing strategy across paid media, conversion optimization, email marketing, SEO, and related channels
  • Support Digital Marketing Associates by sharing best practices and helping guide campaign execution quality
  • Ensure all campaigns meet compliance requirements and adhere to financial services marketing guidelines

Experience you'll bring:
  • 2-4+ years of hands-on experience managing paid digital advertising campaigns in a client-facing, agency, or performance marketing environment
  • Direct experience building and optimizing campaigns in Meta Ads Manager and Google Ads
  • Proven ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously while maintaining performance and meeting deadlines
  • Strong understanding of paid media strategy including campaign structure, audience targeting, creative testing, funnel optimization, and conversion tracking
  • Ability to interpret campaign data, identify trends, diagnose performance issues, and recommend strategic optimizations
  • Strong understanding of how creative, messaging, targeting, landing pages, and follow-up systems impact performance outcomes
  • Confident communicator with the ability to clearly present performance insights and strategic recommendations to clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to simplify complex digital marketing concepts and coach clients at a strategic level
  • Organized, self-motivated, results-driven, and a team player

Bonus Points:
  • Previous experience within an ad-agency
  • Proven experience w/ Google Analytics, Tag Manager, and Optimize.

What you'll get:
  • Amazing benefits including medical, dental, vision and 401k (with matching options)
  • Generous PTO package from your start date
  • Access to an on-site café, gym and even an on-site primary care
  • Continuous personal and professional development opportunities
