Job description

About the Role

The Senior Director, Brand & Communications is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and protecting Billtrust's market presence across every dimension - brand identity, content, communications, design, and digital experience. This leader sets the strategic direction for how Billtrust is perceived by customers, prospects, partners, and the broader market, and ensures that perception is built and reinforced consistently across all channels and formats.

This role will lead the charge helping to reframe the category, and the conversation we have with our audiences through well developed, long-term strategic narratives that will reflect Billtrust's point of view, our unique differentiation and our value, with a dose of provocation and breaking from convention in the category. This is a defining time for the Billtrust brand and this role will be instrumental to how we tell that story, how we build awareness, earn attention and drive growth for the company.

This role will report into the CMO and lead a broad, high-impact team that includes a Creative Director, a Director of Content, a Marketing Communications Director (senior IC) who oversees PR and social presence, a Graphic Design team, and ownership of the Billtrust website. You will leverage AI tools and co-worker agents to increase the velocity and quality of output across all these functions - while focusing your leadership on the vision, talent, and cross-functional relationships that drive long-term brand equity and market credibility.

What You'll Do

Brand & Market Positioning

Set the overarching brand strategy for Billtrust - defining how the company is positioned in the B2B fintech market and ensuring brand architecture, voice, and visual identity are differentiated, consistent, and resonant with target buyers.

Use competitive intelligence, market research, and AI-powered audience insights to continuously sharpen positioning and proactively identify opportunities to strengthen Billtrust's brand equity.

Other duties as assigned.

Content Strategy & Editorial Direction

Provide strategic direction to the Director of Content, ensuring the content program is tightly aligned to brand positioning, go-to-market priorities, and audience needs - and that AI-powered content workflows are in place to drive scale without sacrificing quality or voice.

Champion thought leadership and executive visibility programs that establish Billtrust leaders as a technology leader across the fintech and AR space across earned, owned, and paid channels.

Marketing Communications

Oversee the Marketing Communications Director, a senior individual contributor responsible for high-stakes external messaging - including press relations, corporate narratives, product launch communications, social media and executive positioning.

Ensure communications strategy is integrated with brand and content programs, reinforcing a unified external voice across all market-facing activities and moments.

Creative & Design

Lead the Graphic Design team, and external agencies or contractors, setting creative standards and ensuring all visual output - across campaigns, sales enablement, events, and digital - is on-brand, high-quality, and delivered efficiently using AI-assisted design workflows.

Maintain and evolve Billtrust's design system and visual identity standards in partnership with the Creative Director, ensuring scalability across internal teams and agency partners.

Website & Digital Experience

Own the Billtrust website as a strategic brand and demand asset - setting the vision for UX, messaging, structure, and performance in partnership with Design, Content, Demand Generation and Marketing Operations, using AI-powered analytics to continuously optimize the digital experience.

Ensure the website reflects current brand positioning, product messaging, and go-to-market priorities - driving ongoing improvements in traffic, engagement, and conversion in alignment with demand generation goals.

Leadership & Cross-functional Collaboration

Lead, coach, and develop a multi-disciplinary team across brand, content, communications, design, brand and web - fostering a high-performance culture that embraces AI as a force multiplier and consistently raises the bar on creativity and execution.

Partner closely with Product Marketing, Demand Generation, and Sales to ensure brand and communications programs are tightly integrated with pipeline and revenue goals.

Define and track performance metrics across brand health, content engagement, communications reach, website performance, and design output - using data and AI-powered analytics to continuously optimize and demonstrate business impact.

What You'll Bring

Required Skills:

10+ years of experience in brand, communications, or integrated marketing, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing multi-disciplinary teams.

Demonstrated ability to lead across multiple marketing disciplines simultaneously - brand, content, communications, design, and web - with strong instincts for prioritization, delegation, and developing director-level talent.

Proven track record driving AI adoption at the team and function level - including integrating AI tools across content, design, research, and analytics workflows to measurably increase speed and output quality.

Deep expertise in B2B brand strategy, corporate communications, and market positioning, with a strong portfolio of work demonstrating measurable brand impact in competitive markets.

Experience owning a corporate website as a strategic asset, including working with design, content, and web development teams to drive performance improvements in traffic, engagement, and conversion.

Strong executive presence and communication skills - able to influence senior stakeholders, represent the brand function in leadership forums, and build credibility across the organization.

Preferred Skills:

Background in B2B SaaS or fintech, with experience marketing to finance, treasury, or operations personas and an understanding of trust-driven, relationship-heavy buying environments.

Experience with press and media relations, executive thought leadership programs, and building external brand credibility through earned media and industry recognition.

Familiarity with brand tracking tools, CMS platforms, web analytics (e.g., GA4), design systems (e.g., Figma), and AI-powered marketing tools across content, design, and research functions.

Experience leading or significantly contributing to a brand refresh, rebrand, or brand architecture overhaul in a fast-moving B2B environment.

The expected base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $260,000 annually.

Compensation may vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses. Further details will be provided by our Talent Acquisition team during the interview process.
