Job description

Position Description: 

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) is seeking a Night Shift Psychiatrist to join its Crisis Response Center (CRC) at the HUP Cedar Campus. HUP Cedar is a longstanding community-based and mission-driven hospital located in southwest Philadelphia. Penn is proud to continue the tradition of serving the mental health needs of the neighborhood and Philadelphia region through two adult inpatient units, an inpatient detoxification unit, a consultation/liaison service, and a brand-new, state-of-the-art CRC.

The HUP Cedar Psychiatry team is committed to providing high-quality care in a community mental health setting. The clinical team works closely with HUP, Penn Medicine, Penn’s Department of Psychiatry, and the city of Philadelphia to achieve these goals.

  • The CRC is a 24 hour-a-day, 7 days-a-week psychiatric emergency room.
  • The CRC serves three populations of patients: those who self-refer for treatment, those who are brought in by police, and those who are referred from the emergency department (ED) at the HUP Cedar or HUP Spruce campuses.
  • CRC physicians collaborate frequently with physicians in the HUP Cedar and HUP Spruce EDs as well as Philadelphia Police.
  • CRC physicians also work with a psychiatric APP, 2-3 nurses, 2-3 crisis clinicians, and a peer specialist.
  • The CRC physician will have the opportunity to work with nursing and advanced practice students, as well as Penn Psychiatry residents.
  • There is no required call, though physicians may opt in to paid call.

Schedule: Night shift, 3 Nights/week. Part-time and weekend positions may also be available No on-call requirement

Position Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Medicine (Allopathic/Osteopathic)
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency
  • Possess or able to obtain an unrestricted PA Medical License
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible
  • Experience working in a psychiatric emergency setting
