What is the 3 3 3 rule for cranes?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Crane Rigger, and why are they important?
What is the difference between Crane Rigger vs Signal Person?
| Aspect | Crane Rigger | Signal Person |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Role | Attach, secure, and guide loads for cranes | Communicate signals to crane operators for safe lifting |
| Certifications | Rigger certification, OSHA training | Signal person certification, OSHA training |
| Work Environment | Construction sites, industrial settings | Construction sites, crane operations |
| Industry Usage | Heavy lifting, rigging operations | Coordination and communication during lifts |
While both roles are essential in crane operations, a Crane Rigger focuses on attaching and securing loads, whereas a Signal Person communicates with the crane operator to ensure safe lifting. They often work closely but have distinct responsibilities within the same industry environment.

Crane operators operate traveling or stationary overhead crane (cab- or ground controlled) to lift, move, and position loads, such as machinery, equipment, products, and solid or bulk materials, using hoisting attachments such as hook, sling, electromagnet, or bucket.
