Director of Safety Canyon State Electric Tempe, Arizona

Are you a driven safety leader who wants to build a best-in-class safety program for one of Arizona's premier electrical contractors?

We're seeking a hands-on Director of Safety to lead our safety efforts, foster a proactive safety culture, and protect our team while supporting continued business growth.

This is a high-visibility leadership role where you will shape safety strategy, mentor talent, and ensure every project is completed safely and successfully.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive Safety Management System tailored to electrical construction.
  • Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), and site-specific safety planning.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA 1926, NFPA 70E, NEC, DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Develop and deliver impactful safety training programs for field teams, foremen, and project managers (including OSHA 10/30, CPR/First Aid, electrical safety, and leadership training).
  • Manage the company's Learning Management System (LMS) and track all certifications and training records.
  • Lead and develop a team of safety coordinators and trainers.
  • Conduct regular job site audits, safety walks, and inspections.
  • Partner with preconstruction and project teams to integrate safety into planning from day one.
  • Monitor key safety metrics (TRIR, DART, near-miss rates) and deliver actionable reports to leadership.
  • Represent the company during regulatory inspections and audits.

Location: Tempe, AZ (with regular travel to project sites throughout Arizona)

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of progressive safety experience in electrical or construction industries, with 5+ years in a leadership role
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, and construction safety standards
  • Hands-on experience with energized work, trenching, confined space, and elevated work
  • Proven ability to create and deliver engaging technical and leadership training programs
  • Required Certifications: OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 (must upload both with resume)
  • OSHA 30 (Construction) and First Aid/CPR Instructor certifications required
  • CSP, CHST, CUSP, or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
