Job Summary and Qualifications

The Patient Safety Director is responsible for facilitating the transition from a retrospective, reactive model for risk management to a prospective, proactive loss prevention, harm reducing patient safety program.  Promotes a culture of safety.  Directs others within the facility towards process improvements that support the elimination of medical/health care errors and other factors that contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes.  Initiates and oversees the development of a comprehensive patient safety improvement program inclusive of the analysis and trending of data. This position demonstrates a high degree of responsibility, accountability and autonomy. 

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, or related field, required
  • Master’s Degree, preferred 
  • 3 years experience in a position dedicated to either Patient Safety, Risk, or Qualityclinical education experience responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of clinincal education programs, required 
  • 3 years bedside nursing experience in acute care setting, preferred 
  • Previous management experience, preferred 
  • RN with current Florida licensure Required (or) Recognized Compact Licensure (Subject to FL State Licensing Requirements, including/not limited to ongoing eligibility & Duration provisions), required
  • Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS), required 
  • If not already CPPS, must complete the following: 
  1. CPPS Examination must be taken within 90 days of hire 
  2. CPPS Certification must be achieved within 12 months from date of hire. 
  • CPHRM, required 
  1. If not already CPHRM, must complete the following: 
  2. CPHRM Examination must be taken within 90 days of hire 
  3. CPHRM Certification must be achieved within 12 months from date of hire. 
  • Healthcare Risk Management License if required by State
