How much do cpk manufacturing jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 8, 2026, the average hourly pay for cpk manufacturing in the United States is $14.33, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $9.62 and $17.07 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced in a Cpk Manufacturing role and how can they be addressed?

In a Cpk Manufacturing role, one of the primary challenges is maintaining process capability and consistency to meet quality standards. This often involves analyzing production data, identifying sources of variation, and implementing corrective actions quickly. Communication with cross-functional teams, such as quality assurance and engineering, is essential to resolve issues efficiently. Staying up-to-date with statistical process control (SPC) tools and being proactive in continuous improvement initiatives can help overcome these challenges and support overall manufacturing excellence.

What is the difference between Cpk Manufacturing vs Quality Control Technician?

AspectCpk ManufacturingQuality Control Technician
CredentialsTypically requires manufacturing or industrial certifications, sometimes a degree in manufacturing or engineeringOften requires quality assurance certifications, such as CQE or related technical training
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, production lines, factory floorsQuality labs, inspection areas, manufacturing facilities
Industry UsageUsed across manufacturing sectors like automotive, electronics, and consumer goodsCommonly employed in quality assurance and control departments within manufacturing

While both roles are integral to manufacturing, Cpk Manufacturing focuses on process capability analysis to ensure production quality, whereas Quality Control Technicians perform inspections and testing to verify product standards. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job focus within manufacturing industries.

What does a Cpk Manufacturing professional do?

A Cpk Manufacturing professional specializes in monitoring and improving process capability indices, specifically the Cpk (Process Capability Index), within a manufacturing environment. Their primary role is to analyze production data to ensure that manufacturing processes consistently produce items within specified tolerance limits. They work to identify sources of process variation, implement quality control measures, and collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize process efficiency and quality. By maintaining a high Cpk value, they help ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CPK Manufacturing Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CPK Manufacturing Technician, you need a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, and statistical process control (SPC), often supported by a high school diploma or technical certification. Familiarity with tools like calipers, micrometers, and manufacturing software such as Minitab or other SPC analysis systems is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities ensure product consistency, minimize defects, and support efficient, high-quality manufacturing operations.

Job description

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer with strong hands-on CNC machining expertise in high-volume automotive manufacturing. This role focuses on improving machining performance, increasing OEE, reducing scrap, and driving stable, capable production processes across CNC operations.

This is a shop-floor engineering role requiring deep CNC programming capability, process ownership, and proven experience delivering measurable manufacturing improvements in a production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve CNC machining processes to increase OEE, throughput, and quality while reducing scrap
  • Develop, modify, and validate CNC programs for CNC lathes and vertical/horizontal milling machines
  • Lead CNC toolpath development and cutting strategy optimization for automotive components
  • Select and optimize tooling, inserts, fixtures, and workholding solutions
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, including tool wear, chatter, cycle time variation, and dimensional variation
  • Conduct first-piece validation and support Cp/Cpk capability studies
  • Apply SPC methods to ensure stable, repeatable, and controlled manufacturing processes
  • Partner with Quality, Operations, and Maintenance teams to resolve production issues
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain process documentation, work instructions, and engineering standards

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of CNC programming and machining experience in automotive or high-volume precision manufacturing
  • Strong experience with CNC lathes and milling machines (Fuji and Mori Seiki preferred)
  • Proficiency in Mastercam (or equivalent CAM software) and AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and tolerance stack-ups
  • Hands-on experience with SPC, Cp/Cpk, and process capability studies
  • Experience with CMM inspection and Zoller tool presetting systems
  • Strong knowledge of carbide tooling, inserts, and workholding design
  • Proven shop-floor troubleshooting and production support experience

Must-Have Experience

  • High-volume automotive manufacturing (Tier 1 supplier, OEM, or equivalent precision environment)
  • End-to-end CNC programming: development, validation, and production release
  • Demonstrated improvements in OEE, scrap reduction, or throughput
  • Strong SPC and Cp/Cpk implementation experience in production environments
  • Direct shop-floor ownership of machining process stability and troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tier 1 automotive or OEM manufacturing experience
  • Multi-axis CNC machining experience
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
  • ERP/MES system experience
  • Cross-functional leadership in process improvement projects

Technical Skills

  • CAM: Mastercam (advanced), CNC toolpath development, machining strategy optimization
  • CAD: AutoCAD (intermediate) for drawings and tooling documentation
  • Metrology: CMM inspection, Zoller tool presetting systems
  • Quality Systems: SPC, Cp/Cpk, GD&T, process capability control
  • Tooling & Fixtures: Carbide tooling, inserts, hydraulic/pneumatic workholding design
