The Nursing Supervisor collaborates with unit leadership to ensure appropriate staffing and serves as a resource to the Nursing staff. Continued competence in the practice and of professional nursing in terms of both knowledge and skill. Shows a willingness to demonstrate flexibility for staffing as demanded based on hospital needs. Has a knowledge of growth and development and ability to meet the age-related needs of the patient populations served.

Collaborates with unit leadership to ensure appropriate staffing during assigned shift. Serves as a liaison between nursing and other departments. Provides consultation to Nurse Managers on administrative issues. Confers with Nursing staff, individually, as patient or staff needs may dictate. Confers with Hospital Administrator, on-call, about patient, family, physician, staff, and community problems when necessary. Evaluates Nursing care activities of each unit throughout the shift. Demonstrates the ability to resolve the complexities of bed allocation.

Addresses complex patient care situations on a daily basis. Refers staff to clinical resources, as appropriate. Fosters nursing care practices that are consistent with philosophy, standards, and policies of the Loyola University Health System. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical,

psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patient population served.

Recognizes own need for continuing education on an ongoing basis. Evaluates progress of orienting staff in conjunction with Education Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Specialist. Makes recommendation in regard to continuing education needs of the staff. Works supportively with students and instructors from affiliated institutions.

Promotes changes in nursing care practices as necessary. Participates in formal evaluations of nursing care delivery or any aspect thereof. Encourages the use of a scientific, problem-solving approach to patient-care problems. Participates in updating technology within nursing. Consults with members of Professional Development department in regard to development and revision of Nursing Department protocol and standards as needed.

Follows hospital-wide and departmental safety policies and recommendations from the Environment of Care Committee. Follows hospital-wide and departmental infection control policies and recommendation from Infection Control. Practices safe and effective use of equipment.

Consistently displays appropriate customer relations behavior as dictated by the Customer Service Program. Participates in performance improvement activities and follows recommendations made by teams.

III. Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:

Required: Bachelors Degree

Preferred: Masters Degree

Specify Degree(s): Nursing

Minimum Experience:

Required: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience

Preferred: 6-10 years of previous job-related experience

Details: Minimum of three years hospital nursing experience

Managerial Experience: 1-2 years

Details: Charge nurse or nursing supervisor experience

Licensure/Certifications:

Required:

ACLS (Advanced Cardio Life Support Certified)

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

Current Registered Nurse License State of Illinois

Preferred:

PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Other: CPI training highly desirable

Compensation:

Pay Range: $35.89 -$62.91

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
